All Things Chet Holmgren Recruitment Thread (Class of 2021, Gophers Have Offered)

Handles it like a wing at 7' and just entering his Jr season. Incredible!

Article on the increase in injuries among young elite basketball players, suggests that kids really need to take time off and not play any basketball for a couple of months to rest muscles that are still developing.

This is true and a problem for almost every sport but football. And the only reason it doesn’t apply to football is nobody can play football year round so it isn’t even an option.

Swimming it also doesn’t really apply to because of the lack of contact with any thing in swimming.

Shoulder injuries in swimming are very common from the year round repetitive motion. Tendinitis, rotator cuff injuries, etc... Michael Phelps was constantly battling shoulder injuries. My shoulder and neck are still messed up from swimming in high school and college.

Especially in a summer camp setting

True, however it is very rare for a 16 year old that is 7 feet tall to dribble through cones smoothly. He is extremely skilled and has a huge passion for the work.

Seeing him play live is a different experience. The videos are cool but I encourage everyone to go watch him play this year in high school. It's something to behold. He has a legit shot at being #1 in his class.

Two top in-state 2021 targets, Kendall Brown and Treyton Thompson, are transferring to prep schools, but not Holmgren. That’s helped him develop a good relationship with the U, which included an unofficial visit to Gophers practice earlier this month.

“We have been building a better and better relationship since they have become able to contact me,” Holmgren said. “It’s a new culture and it’s heading in the right direction. This year should be a big year for them.”

Go Gophers!!

Which schools have prioritized him?

“There’s a pretty good amount,” Holmgren said. “Minnesota, Gonzaga, Texas, Baylor, Purdue, Georgetown, Coach [Patrick] Ewing texts me a lot and we talk back and forth a lot. Cal, there’s a couple more I can’t remember off the top of my head.”

At the beginning of the summer Holmgren took unofficial visits to Georgetown, Maryland and Virginia. He’s looking to set up some more trips for the fall.

“I’m going to try and get some officials in during the school year,” he said. “Maybe some unofficials, I live right by Minnesota so I’ll stop by there a couple of times, definitely see some games this winter.”

“I want to go see Gonzaga, get down to Purdue, Texas, Ohio State and then figure out my last one,” he added.

We’ll who’s right or wrong in the next couple of weeks. In the mean it’s good to see Pitino is working hard like you guys say.

He also visited Gordon and Mashburn yesterday who are both going to be on campus soon in addition to Muscadin who is visiting this weekend. I agree, glad to see Pitino is prioritizing realistic targets who might want to be future Gophers rather than bending over backward for kids who have no intention of staying home which btw, there is nothing wrong with.

Looks like Chet has an official visit to Ohio State this weekend and then an official visit to Gonzaga scheduled for October 5th which is the same weekend Jalen Suggs with be taking his second Gonzaga official.
