Gophers center Matz Stockman will graduate and transfer from the program, according to Evan Daniels of 24/7 Sports. He has one year of eligibility remaining and can play for a new school immediately, per the report. He transferred to Minnesota from Louisville last spring and sat out the entire 2017 season due to transfer rules. He'll leave the Gophers without playing a single minute of basketball.

This opens another recruiting spot for the Gophers to fill before the 2018-2019 season. Perhaps they will look to add another guard or center to continue building depth. It seems likely the team will favor backcourt help. According to Darren Wolfson, head coach Pitino met with 6-foot-4 North Dakota guard Geno Crandall and his family last week. Crandall is looking to transfer after leading the team in scoring with 16.6 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.1 steals per game last season. He would provide the Gophers with another ball handler to go along with Isaiah Washington and Brock Stull.

With this move, the recovery of freshman big-man Daniel Oturu becomes even more important. Oturu had surgery on his shoulder in May, but is expected to be ready for the season-opener in November. The Gophers will need him to contribute in the rotation down low, especially with Stockman leaving the program.
