Penn State travels to Spain:

The Lady Lions will begin their tour of Spain with two nights in Madrid. Penn State will tour Madrid as well as medieval Toledo, the former Spanish capital. The Lady Lions will play their first game of the trip on Aug. 11 against a Spanish All-Star Team.

Penn State will then head to Valencia, the third-largest city in Spain, for three days. The Lady Lions will embark on a sightseeing tour of the city that is known for both its old-world charm and innovative contemporary architecture before visiting the Valencia Bullfighting museum. Penn State will play its second of three games on Tuesday Aug. 14 against another Spanish All-Star team at L'Alqueria del Basket.

The Lady Lions are set to wrap up their trip with three days in the famous city of Barcelona. Penn State will tour ancient city, visit Park Güell and La Sagrada Família, as well as take in the sights of a flamenco show. The Lady Lions play their final game against Cinkarna Celje, the reigning Slovanian/Adriadic League Champions, on Thursday Aug. 16.

Penn State wrapped up their tour of Spain with a 2-1 record after losing to ZKK Cinkarna 76-70. Previously the Lady Lions defeated CD CREF Madrid 108-81 and Valencia All-Stars 87-80.

Assistant coach Itoro Coleman's comments on some of the freshmen:

Bexley Wallace continues to impress with her defense. She plays tough and she is savvy enough to stay in front of the ball and make people shoot over her. I've given her the nickname Ms. Intangible. She does the things that don’t necessarily show up on the stat sheet, but have a huge impact on the floor.

Lauren Ebo brings toughness. If the opponent is getting pretty physical, especially inside the paint, you can count on Ebo to battle and most times win the fight. She is strong and does not back down.

Karisma Ortiz is fun to watch as well. The fans are going to love to watch her play. Why? Because she makes plays that make you say “WOW”. She has the ability to complete passes in tight spaces. She puts her teammates in positions to score very easily

For the second consecutive game, Penn State (4-1) needed a mad comeback for the win. This time it was a 22-4 run to close the game against North Dakota 75-68 in Happy Valley. Three days ago, the Lady Lions fought back from an nine point late fourth quarter deficit to defeat Princeton in OT 79-71.

This time a PSU mad comeback failed. The Lady Lions trailed Stony Brook 43-21 at the half before losing 81-70. Teniya Page scored 34.

It was a tale of two halves for Penn State in Happy Valley on Sunday.

The Lady Lions were defeated by Stony Brook Sunday 81-70, but not before the team mounted a spirited second half comeback that fell just short.

Penn State could get nothing going offensively in the first half once again as turnovers and poor shooting resulted in a lackluster scoring attack, problems which seem to be reoccurring for Coquese Washington’s team.

Bad loss for the Nittany Lions. Page was solid but they didn't get much from her supporting cast. PSU should finish in the bottom half of the BIG this year.
