The Gophers have received a commitment from Largo, FL cornerback Solomon Brown. He took an official visit this weekend and chose Minnesota over offers from Iowa, Air Force, Boston College, Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa State, Rutgers and others. He was a coveted player who had more than 20 offers, including multiple Big Ten teams.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound cornerback has a few things that stand out when you watch his film. First, you see his ball skills and ability to close interceptions in traffic with closing speed or a leap. Not only that, but the key trait is all of his transition quickness to handle receivers in and out of breaks. When talent evaluators are looking for cornerback fits, they really prioritize the need for agility, along with transition quickness. Brown shows this on film and sinks his hips well to get position on the receiver’s hip. He pairs these skills with 4.4 speed and is very physical against the run when coming out of the slot. Brown has the versatility to play safety, outside corner, or in the slot. This will serve him well as he joins the Gophers and carves out a role to use all of the athleticism and agile traits he has in his skill-set.

Congrats to Solomon! I am especially intrigued by his closing speed.

According to 247Sports, Brown is a 3-star cornerback from Largo, Fla. The 5-foot-11 defensive back ranks as the No. 110 cornerback in the Class of 2019.

Minnesota had Brown, outside linebackers Donald Willis and James Gordon IV, defensive tackle DeAngelo Griffin and safety T.J. Robinson commit on Sunday. Three of the five are from the state of Florida, while another is from Georgia, as Fleck seems to be recruiting well in the South.

Here is Minnesota’s 2019 class after the Sunday additions. With 16 commits, the Golden Gophers class now ranks as No. 19 in the country and No. 4 in the Big Ten.

I don’t want to get too flowery, but closest comparison has to be Neon Deion.

Seriously, looks like a nice athlete.

Wow! Awesome! Glad to have you on board Solomon!

Love the speed! He looks like quite the athlete too. Welcome aboard!

He will be like senior season Michael Carter 2.0 (not freshman... oh man).
