Amy Williams receives increase in base salary.

A big turnaround season for the Nebraska women’s basketball team earned coach Amy Williams a raise going into her third season.

Starting on July 1, Williams' base salary will be $626,750. She had been making $575,000. Her contract was also extended one year, keeping it a five-year deal.

When Williams was hired she received a five-year contract for $575,000 annually. She received a one-year extension after her first season, but no raise.

Does anyone know what Whalen's rookie coaching contract is?

The numbers are in the "Whalen Contract" thread. Her base is 2.4 million over 5 years ($400,000 in the first year). While Lindsay is doing double duty she receives .625 of the pay.

One inbound and three outbound.

The Nebraska women added a graduate transfer and removed three players from their active roster for the upcoming season.

Kristian Hudson, a three-year starter for Florida International, will join the Huskers for her senior season. She averaged 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists last year for FIU, which went 8-21.

“We are excited to add Kristian to our Husker family,” coach Amy Williams said. “Her experience, coupled with her enthusiasm to help us raise the bar for our program, make her the perfect fit.”

Senior Darrien Washington and juniors Rachel Blackburn and Bria Stallworth will maintain their scholarships but won’t be on the active roster for 2018-19.

Blackburn battled chronic knee pain throughout her Husker career, even redshirting one season — Williams’ first — to deal with it. She averaged 1.5 points and 1.9 rebounds. Washington averaged 1.3 points and 2.2 rebounds. Stallworth, a Massachusetts transfer, was expected to compete for the starting point guard job last season. But she shot 34.2 percent from the floor and 31.4 percent from 3-point range while averaging 13 minutes per game.

Senior forward Maddie Simon and junior guard Hannah Whitish are two players Williams will look to for leadership on the court. Whitish and Simon were first and second on the team in scoring, respectively, last season. Whitish also led the team in steals with 41 in 2017.

“[Maddie] has been here the longest, and she’s worked really really hard,” Williams said. “She’s been through some downs and ups, and I think she’s leaning on that experience to become a great leader.”

“With the success that [Whitish] has had, she’s shown great leadership for us,” Williams said.

Williams said senior transfer guard Kristian Hudson from Florida International will be another valuable veteran leader for the team.

Hudson started 87 games at FIU, amassing over 1,000 points and playing over 36 minutes per game for the Panthers.

Nebraska also signed a top-20 recruiting class for this year. The new crop of freshmen include forwards Ashtyn Veerbeek, Kayla Mershon and Leigha Brown and guard Sam Haiby.

“They’re all very high-IQ players,” Williams said of her newest recruiting class. “They’ve picked things up quickly, which has allowed us to advance.”

Williams said Veerbeek and Mershon could have an immediate impact on defense this season.

...

Williams said sophomore center Kate Cain greatly improved her game over the summer, but it was non-physical traits, such as confidence, where Cain made the biggest jumps.

Nebraska not looking that good, struggling with Drake tonight.

It’s looking like Nebraska is relying pretty heavily on the reserves to pick up the slack. They’re trailing by 11 in the third.

Cain seems to be back in form. 16 pts (8-9), 17 reb in a 96-63 victory over San Jose St.

Nebraska finished it's non-conference schedule 5-6 with an 84-80 loss at Arkansas (9-3). The Huskers took a 15-2 lead at the start. The Razorbacks finally ran them down in the third. The fourth quarter was entertaining unless you were a coach. The Husker freshmen, Haiby (16 points) and Veerbeek (14 points) looked good. That was fortunate because Cain had four points in limited time before fouling out. Veerbeek also fouled out late in the game. The Huskers nailed threes in the first half; Arkansas in the second.
