QB Jacob Clark commits to Gophers!!

I just hope he makes it to the start of Fall practice.

Seriously - the demise of VV has lowered the bar for future QB recruits.

Let's not burden this guy with expectations that he's coming in to save the program. Give him the space to just play the game, and the results will speak for themselves.

And I will try not to give Pat Reusse any material for future columns.
You got it SON. I have no prediction on the kid. I just hope he sticks and thrives at UMN.

Well those two panned out so well that's there's now way this can fail!
Sarcasm aside, I'm excited for Jacob Clark to join the Gophers and look forward to seeing what he can do in the Maroon and Gold :)
LOL, cynical Gopher humor. Gotta love it!

Seems like a great 2nd QB to add for the class.

Recruiting is a funny business. Max Duggan leaves the midwest to play for TCU. Clark leaves Texas for Minnesota.

Take that Cal!

Oh and for any of the "copy / paste from the internet" media folks out there:

This guy as about as close to the next Joe Montana as it gets!

Guy is like Peyton Manning if he was in Rob Gronkowski’s body.

Wow! Unbelievable get! Future Hall of Famer!! This is the best QB recruit I've seen here just about ever! Fleck is really getting everyone to RTB!

or

Meh, hard to say if this kid ever plays a down for the maroon and gold. Kids are young, and sometimes they change their mind or aren't as good as we had hoped.

With a big wink and nod to our Golden Gopher alums, fans, and faithful from the greater Chicago area - let me go on record by stating that I’m . . . Nuts on Clark!!!!

Tough to speculate but wonder if he's a better passer than Cole Kramer.....

I'd like some depth at QB hope they both can co-exist.

Only real difference on espn is height 6'5'' vs 6'1'', and 40 time, 4.69 CK, 5.04 for this guy....

Highest level Texas high school ball has to be a notch above anything here.....

That's cute!

Here we go...
Kyle Goblirsch@GobieMN

Was called out on @Minnesota247, but @JacobClark_12's 9 P5 offers is the most from a QB commit to #Minnesota since @seth_mgreen and @MarQueisG.

“This kid is really going to be good. I can’t believe his tape. He’s the best QB we have recruited since Mike Hohensee.

“He is going to turn this program around.’’

Hoping for another cameo in a Reusse article, Halsey? :)

Good to see the staff targeting QBs who are passers first. It's encouraging that some teams that love to sling it wanted him.

I just hope this thread is not fodder for another Reusse column ala the VV column.

I hope he's comfortable sitting being Cole Kramer.

Seriously, though. This is more like it. Big morale booster after the botched JUCO recruit.

I don't want to overreact, but I can't picture a scenario where Clark doesn't win a Heisman with us.

Gotta love the sense of humor, here. Kudos. Some others would just flame and call Ruesse an "idiot."

I think fun / hype about a new guy joining the team is normal, have some fun with it. Folks who don't get that it isn't a critical evaluation ... well they can just keep not getting it. When someone says "man this ice cream is the best" those folks probabbly jump all over them "YOU REALLY THINK THIS IS THE BEST ICE CREAM OF ALL ICE CREAM!?!!? ARE YOU CRAZY!?!!?"

You don't see the difference between having an opinion on ice cream, and claiming a kid that hasn't touched a football is assuredly the program savior and best Gophes' QB since the beginning of time?

Someone being great at playing football isn't really an opinion. It also isn't something you can know in advance. It has nothing to do with you "getting it," and others not.

From the tape I've seen, he's more of a Manning/Brady/Marino/Elway combination.

I was thinking leadership ability like Bart Starr, the arm of Johnny Unitas, the nimble feet of Fran Tarkington, and the steely nerves of a Brett Fav'ruh or Tommy Kramer.:drink:

I watched his HUDL 2018 Highlights, which are quite impressive... He has a compact, fairly quick release/delivery on which he will have another two years to improve....

Of course VV's 2018 JC highlights were impressive to me too, so what the hell do I know, other than I am learning with time, that it takes one hell of an athlete to be a quality D1 QB.

Here is to hoping that Spring is eternal.

I'll be disappointed if he doesn't win 5 Heismans, myself, including the redshirt year.
My nominee for most realistic GH post of 2018 is found above. ;)

I agree, I was thinking the same thing. I've always liked QBs that can run, but after seeing what we've had lately it's pretty clear that you have to have passing skills. I take the fact that he only rushed for 125 yards last year as a positive.

On a side note, it occurred to me that half of the people on here could be bobos working for Reusse himself just to make sure that he always has material. It would be the smart move.

Them recruiting videos. Who is to say that the only good plays a kid made in HS is all captured on the video sent to a coach when the rest of the time he plays rotten?

I only dine at restaurants with more than one Michelin Star, so yes. You appear to be quite basic.

It's all entertainment dude, you gotta get some perspective.

Predicting someone's ability to play is an opinion. If it isn't ... what would you call it?
