I’m a little surprised McGuff didn’t bail.

We wondered where Carmen Grande would land:

Those first three games are pretty impressive. The rest, not so much.

With Sierra Calhoun's departure Makayla Waterman is the Buckeyes leading returning scorer.

Fairmont graduate Makayla Waterman, who averaged 3.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game last season, becomes the leading returning scorer for the Buckeyes, who also lost All-American point guard Kelsey Mitchell, All-Big Ten forward Stephanie Mavunga, starting guards Linnae Harper and Asia Doss and key reserve Alexa Hart to graduation.

Coach Kevin McGuff has had to reload on the fly, adding highly regarded Hungarian forward Dorka Juhasz, Pacific transfer point guard Najah Queenland and freshman guard Janai Crooms (St. Andrew’s High School in Rhode Island) and freshman post player Aaliyah Patty (Montini Catholic in Illinois) over the past year.

The Ohio State roster also contains new graduate transfers Carmen Grande (Ball State), Adreana Miller (LaSalle), Carly Santoro (Bowling Green) and Ashanti Abshaw (Cleveland State).

Spanish forward Aixa Wone reportedly committed to Ohio State in May, but she has not been added to the roster yet.

While experience in Big Ten play might be limited for the Ohio State women’s basketball team this season, a few additions to the roster could use its overseas experience to help push the team further.

Freshman forward Dorka Juhasz, a first-year player from Hungary, and redshirt senior guard Carmen Grande, a graduate transfer from Ball State who is originally from Spain, look to use their international experience as a means to help their new team.

The team is returning only four players from last year — junior guard Jensen Caretti, redshirt senior forward Makayla Waterman, senior guard Karlie Cronin and sophomore forward Savitha Jayaraman.

But Juhasz and Grande look to bring something new to the table.

Juhasz is the No. 12 international player and No. 5 forward in the 2018 recruiting class, according to Prospects Nation. Juhasz also played for the Hungarian national team beginning in 2015 before coming to Ohio State. She averaged 11.7 points and 9.4 rebounds in seven games at the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in 2017.

...

Another player who could be bringing something new to the table is Grande, the graduate transfer point guard by way of Madrid.

Grande had the second-most assists in the country in the past three years with 697. She started in all 96 games in three seasons and was No. 2 in the nation in 2017 with 9.2 assists per game.

Grande was also a member of the U16 Spanish national team and played for two top professional clubs, Estudiantes and Rivas. Having had professional experience at such a young age, Grande is looking to use that experience to her advantage as a Buckeye.

In a seriously ugly game, featuring many a moving screen call, Ohio State's (4-3) late comeback defeated Florida (3-7) 46-41 in St. John Arena.

Ohio State shot 17-58 from the field (29.3%), 1-19 from three (5.3%) and 54.7% from the line. Florida was 14-57 from the field (24.6%), 23.9% from three and 54.5% from the line.

This may have been Ohio State's last game in St. John Arena (a volleyball venue they use once or twice a year) because a new volleyball facility will open next season and St. John Arena is ultimately scheduled for demolition.

Ohio State (4-4) lost 66-53 to Butler (9-1) in West Palm Beach. Butler opened a 16 point lead in the second quarter and the Buckeyes never recovered. Next up for OSU: Virginia Tech.
