It's possible Gophers could participate for 3rd time in 4-year history of Gavitt Games, but guessing they sit out this season. If Gophers do participate, site likely to be opposite of ACC Challenge (if ACC on road as expected, Big East opponent at home, if ACC at home for 2nd straight year, Big East opponent on road). One way or another, would like to think Gophers will play one notable non-conference home game at Williams Arena to replace the (presumably) quality opponent at U.S. Bank Stadium? Let's see if Coyle puts his money where his mouth is.

The last 2 Gavitt Games pairings were released May 3 (2016) and May 24 (2017).

So you're saying they need to know ACC Challenge pairings before they can finalize G Games?

I'd guess both already have a pretty good idea what the pairings are. Coaches know well ahead of announcement so they can schedule accordingly. Most importantly, I'm sure they're told whether they'll have a home or road game.

So G games are a limited invite and based on what?

8-year contract. Big East teams guaranteed to play 6 games over the 8 years, Big Ten teams 4 games.
How about evening it out with opening the Big Ten season with a G game? Kidding, but somewhat strange math these guarantees.

A growing rivalry there. Let's go X!

I know its unrealistic due to conference balance, but I wish the Gophers could place this every year. Fun playing against a basketball rich conference.

Isn't Xavier in pretty serious rebuild mode right now? New coach, no macura, no bluiett, o'mara, kanter or gates.

If Wisconsin doesn't win that game, they would be in serious trouble especially if Happ returns which is what I think will happen.
