The Gophers have received a commitment from Rosemount WR Jonathan Mann. He chose Minnesota over offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Arkansas and others. He tallied 662 receiving yards and seven touchdowns last season, flashing his electricity when the ball was in his hands.

Mann is a very talented playmaker and has received glowing reviews from coaches and teammates who have worked with him in the past. He will provide the Gophers with a unique playmaker to use in creative ways within their offense. The 6-foot-4 wide receiver is the first player to commit to the 2020 class. Mann’s athleticism is what really stands out as he was asked to play multiple positions on offense, including quarterback. Mann was a star on the track team, posting a state record 14.85-second time in the hurdles as a freshman. There is plenty of upside with a player like Mann, who is widely considered one of the top players in the state for 2020. It was a major accomplishment to land him now before his offer list increased. This was a visionary recruiting move by the coaching staff. They see the ceiling for a player like Mann and can project where he will be as a player in the next few years.

He has the chance to be a very special player under the instruction of wide receivers Matt Simon, who can take his athleticism and pair it with efficient route running. If you fire up Mann's tape, you'll see his athleticism and an ability to make defenders miss in space. This, combined with a wide catch radius, leaves room for him to develop as he progresses through the remainder of his high school career. He hasn't really reached his full potential yet and the Gophers were wise to land him early in the process. The Gophers have to like the intangibles a player like Mann possesses, including athleticism, catch radius, elusiveness and explosive playmaking capability.

When he tightens up all the details of his game, many teams will start to notice. Landing Mann now was important because as he develops, he will quickly cement himself as one of the top players in the state of Minnesota.

Awesome! Saw him play a couple times last fall and he's a tremendous talent.

When is the last time the gophers received a commitment from a high school sophomore in April? The earliest commit of the Kill era I remember was Jojo Garcia during the fall of his junior year.

It's the earliest commitment since Tommy Olson.

Rosemount didn't have much at the QB position last year, if they did his numbers would have been off the charts. Kid is a freak athlete who is still really raw and could develop into a great player. Hope the commitment sticks as it would be awesome to see him in Maroon and Gold in a few years.

Good start - now find him a QB!

Nice! Great start to the 2020 class!

Awesome! Many people seem to think he'll be getting a lot more offers as time goes by.

Awesome get. This kid is going to be a Minnesota Great!

Yeah, if he doesn't completely shut down his recruiting, they will come flowing in for Mann.

I actually think he is the best prospect in MN next year (I really like Kaden Johnson and he would be a huge get as well), but make no mistake about it, Jonathan Mann is an absolute freak of nature. He is a SO in HS and he is 6'3" 190 lbs and he already has division 1 speed (not elite speed, but he's fast enough). He has those measurables as a Sophomore. By the time he is a SR, he is going to have a freakish athletic profile. That last couple athletes we have had out of MN with freakish profiles were Rashede Hageman and Seantrel Henderson.

Respectfully - at this point, it seems pretty clear that Suggs is the best MN prospect in the 2020 class. That being said, Mann is a great prospect and it's very exciting to have his commit 18 months before he can sign.

You're right. I don't think of him as a football prospect, but if he does go that route, he would be the #1 recruit in the state.

I wonder if he doesn't continuing growing and become more of an athletic TE type

This is great for the program, let's get him out talking up the Gophers at all the camps this summer.

Stay Gold Jonathon!

The State hurdle record must be a "freshmen only" record (didn't know such specifics were kept) because it's no where near the state record. Still, it's a good time none-the-less.

Good get. We'll take 'em!!

looks like a nice athlete though no where near the type of break away speed you'd hope to see from a WR facing MN high school dbs

He is a 190 lbs SO playing against the best competition in the state.

And the DBs in this state are slow as dirt. For a big body kid he moves well but he's not all that fast. At least not from what's on that tape. He has plenty of room to grow and speed isn't everything but it's a lot tougher for slow WRs to gain separation. Maybe he'll turn into a Dajon McKnight

He looks very good for a sophomore, good commit. He looks to have good speed and a natural feel for eluding tacklers. The QB for Rosemount seems to be able to get him the ball to him nicely.

I really have no idea how well he'll turn out, but the top level DBs in MN are OK. If he wasn't getting separation and he played in lower football, it would be problematic, but the highest level of football in the state of MN is absolutely not as bad as you're making it sound. It's not a large amount of teams and there are plenty of examples of recent MN HS athletes, especially those who played against the better competition, who were good college skill players/DBs.

As far as DaJon McKnight - - he is already almost the size of McKnight when McKnight graduated. McKnight is also one of the top Gopher receivers of all time (he is in the top 10 in just about every statistical category).
