Minnesota players perform well at United Stars Chicago Showcase

The United Stars Chicago Showcase didn't disappoint. The one day showcase that took place March 24 in Northbrook Illinois brought in talent from around the United States. There were well over 400 players, thirsty to display their raw talent to media outlets and writers. The right words from the right person could be the difference between earning a scholarship and not earning one. The competition was thick all night! Those that attended the Sound Mind Sound Body Showcase from Minnesota and attended the Chicago showcase upped their ante with national writers. There were so many players filmed we thought we would pay homage to the players from Minnesota that made the trek.

Remember the name, Treyton Welch. The 6'3" Wide receiver performed well at the showcase. The Jr. from Buffalo, Minnesota made great catches seem routine. Welch is a lengthy wide receiver with great hands and great route running. He was able to create space and make catches on numerous occasions.

Another long and lengthy wide receiver with great hands and technical route running was Adrian Adams. The Junior Wide receiver was able to get separation all night long with his speed, length, and athletic ability. The 6'2" Wide Receiver from Minneapolis was one of the most interesting prospects at the camp.

Minneapolis' Thai Bowman and Julian Cavin showed up at the camp and proved they belonged. They were difficult players to cover once they were able to get their reps which were difficult at times. The speedy wide receivers were the favorites in their breakdown groups.

The last skilled Minnesota player to perform well was Marco Lopesio from Wayzata High School. Lopesio got a chance to work with QB coaches and make throws. Lopesio possessed one of the most accurate and strong arms at camp. The junior quarterback is one to watch this upcoming season in the state of 10,000 lakes.

On the defensive side of the ball, Samaje Finch-Garrett continued his upward ascent in the national spotlight with some incredible plays on the defensive line. One play, in particular, showed the size and strength of Finch-Garrett as he manhandled an offensive lineman on the way to the QB pylon. The play is making the rounds on Twitter. It's A Can't-Miss! The Minnetonka junior defensive linemen will grab an offer or two very soon after coaches continue to watch him over the summer.

Another Minnetonka standout was Carvon Gurley. The sophomore also made some spectacular plays against 4 and 5-star linemen at the camp. Gurley has a great motor and good speed for a player his size. The 6'3" Gurley is a really good athlete! He could play an interior defensive lineman or outside linebacker. Gurley can flat out play!

The linebackers at the camp were very solid and again from every Midwest state, you can think of. From Minnesota, we have to start with Kendell Moore. The Eastridge player was a menace all camp long. Moore has a very high football IQ which enabled him to make plays throughout the camp. It probably explains his 4.0 G.P.A. Moore has great size and speed at 6'2" and will be courted by major D1 schools. The kid lives just to play football. You can feel the energy he brings! Moore started for a very good Eastridge football team as a sophomore which is difficult.

Another linebacker that made the trek was Langston Binns. The 6'2" 215 lbs sophomore linebacker has great size and very explosive to the ball. One could tell the showcase was his first action in an aggressive atmosphere like the United Stars Showcase. It didn't take long for him to warm up, as he made good plays with his feet and hands. Has a great understanding of angles which is needed in football. The 6'2" linebacker has deceptive speed and unusually long arms which made it difficult for running backs and receivers crossing the middle.

When discussing the defensive backs we have to start with Minneapolis' North Omar Brown. The 6'1" junior defensive back was a blanket all evening. Brown made plays and let it be known he was a division one defensive back! As Brown continues his campus visits, offers will jump off the board for him. Brown is a very good athlete with good size and speed. Has the body of a middle linebacker and the speed of a cornerback which allows for him to press and be very physical at times and jump routes of receivers.

Another special defensive back at the showcase was Craig McDonald from Minnehaha Academy. The 6'3" sophomore used his size and speed to press receivers and make incredible defensive plays once they got into their routes. McDonald was easily one of the top defensive backs at the camp. He is already a 3-star recruit and one of the top players in his class in the country. After the showcase, McDonald's stock has definitely risen. He has already caught the attention of Big Ten, Big Twelve, and Big East Schools. When watching film of the kid from the showcase one can see why he is the 13th best defensive back in the country as ranked by major media outlets. The kid didn't disappoint.

It's odd that Big East schools being interested in Craig McDonald would be mentioned in a piece about football recruiting.
