I've never covered anything hockey related, but I will say, this was probably the classiest press conference I've ever covered. I can see why he's so beloved by Minnesota.

Here are some clips:

Hockey players and coaches are the classiest bunch.

Honestly, I met Jordan Leopold last week (had no clue who he was) at a fundraiser...I had to ask him, are most hockey players like you? Just so nice and humble. I've never covered them, but it just seems like a very modest group.

Thanks, GL. It probably is the right time, but listening to Lucia at the conference makes one realize how classy he is and how much he cares about the U.

Lucia has always been a classy guy. He did the right thing by passing the program onto the next guy. Thanks Lucia!

Earlier this season (or maybe last season), Jason Zucker was flirting with the NHL record for one player scoring the most consecutive goals for his team. I saw him get asked about it once on TV and once on radio. One time, his response was about how having Staal on his line was the reason he was getting so many good chances. The other time, in response to being asked about how much fun it was fun scoring all those goals, he said something about how the fun part was that the team was winning games. Seems to be part of hockey players identities, they value humbleness and modesty, and will almost without fail deflect any individual praise sent their way to their teammates.

Edit: almost as soon as the submitted this, I also remember listening to the post game show on the way home from a Gopher game, and a player had scored his first career hat trick, and gave the same type of answer (something like "the chances come easy when you have line mates like mine.")

I'm glad that they are keeping Lucia on staff. He can still be a valuable asset to athletic department even it is not directly related to the hockey team.
