On the broadcast tonight, they said the Twins have one 3-run home run this season. One! They all swing for the fences but aren’t connecting.

MLB players are taking a page out of the NBA playbook. 3's are easier to hit than home runs though.

Tom Kelly and Terry Crowley would have had heart attacks by now if they were coaching in today's game.
 


The Twins were -11 in runs last night when I watched. They were +8 when I turned the TV over to something else. I think I've figured out the problem.

If I was Falvine, I would fire every member of the organization who has anything to do with diagnosing and treating injuries, and supervising rehab. every stinkin' one of them.

I agree in the case of Santana. Inexcusable. In Buxton's case, there's no surgery. He simply tried to play through the pain and couldn't. I don't think he's any worse off for it.

I applaud you for your sense of accountability and for taking responsibility. That says a lot about a man!

In other news, Wanda the Walleye is just dominating the Race at Target Field this year. Putting up Bullseye like numbers.

Speaking of tricks of the mind, Lance Lynn is the latest example of the importance of the order of things when it comes to forming impressions.

Lynn was somewhere between bad and awful for almost all of his first eight starts with the Twins, going 1-4 with a 7.47 ERA and getting hit hard whenever he managed to not walk batters.

In his past three starts, Lynn is 3-0 and has allowed just three earned runs combined.

If Lynn had delivered those three starts at the very beginning of his Twins career and then hit a rough patch — arriving at the same 4-4 record with a 5.46 ERA that he has now, just assembled in a different order — the impression fans have of him would be different.

Same goes for Logan Morrison, who posted a robust .822 OPS in May after an awful April.

First impressions are lasting impressions, even if the reality now is that both guys have been productive lately.

They were talking about this on 1500 earlier - how Eddie is a bad ball hitter. As long as you're not chasing things you can't hit, going after stuff out of the strike zone can work to the hitter's advantage in that you don't need to wait for the perfect pitch or a mistake pitch in order to get a hit. Eddie has always chased stuff, but he's developed the ability to hit that crap. Sort of Puckett-like.
 

Rosario saved the season, IMHO. They can still make a run, but need a healthy Mauer and a healthy Buxton, and pick up some bullpen help. With Lynn picking it up, I like the rotation, and they can put runs up on the board.

I listened to the end of the game last night via the Cleveland home announcers just for amusement and they said the same thing. All three home runs, all different parts of the plate.

His sometimes mind-numbing moves in the outfield and on the base paths had me really second-guessing his long term viability earlier this year but MAN, has he been fun to watch the last month or so. Not sure he's a .300 hitter but I'm more than happy to ride the wave as long as we can!

We have two of the top 4 on the current roster yet somehow couldn't buy a run for a week. Hopefully they can continue and take at least 3 of 4 from the White Sox.

Similarly, I was telling someone the other day that I love southern California but could never afford to live there and that it would be cheaper to live here and visit there frequently. You can get yourself some Airbnb in good locations for reasonable.

OF Trevor Larnach, Oregon State. Oregon State has a history of producing big-league outfielders, and Larnach will look to follow in the footsteps of Jacoby Ellsbury and Michael Conforto. He's a left-handed with good plate discipline and an extreme opposite field approach. This spring he's discovered his power stroke, which pushed him into the first round. Larnach will likely slide over to left field in pro ball because his speed and range leave something to be desired in center.
