A big game day including SEC, ACC, and PAC 12 finals, etc.

We're starting off with the A10 #6 St. Joe's versus #5 George Washington final. GW caused some NCAA bid consternation by knocking off the #1 Dayton Flyers in the semi's.

Louisville took out Notre Dame 74-72 to win the ACC title. 23 points and 10 rebounds from former Husker Jess Shepard were impressive; but not enough for the Irish. Jeff Walz, of course, could not get through the hand shake line without saying something annoying to Muffet McGraw.

Baylor and Texas eliminated any Big 12 tournament surprises by taking out TCU and West Virginia. The Bears and Longhorns will play for the title.

In the B1G East Marquette defeated Butler 73-61 and Charlie Creme's designated Nebraska nemesis Creighton defeated St. John's 66-56 to advance to the title game. The early season loss in Lincoln to Creighton plagues the Huskers.

South Carolina ended Mississippi States undefeated season. The SEC participates appear set.

Yes, an icy and contentious moment between Walz and McGraw after the Louisville-Notre Dame game. I'm with Walz on this one. In a tweet earlier in the week, McGraw implied that her player Ogunbowale deserved to win the conference player of the year instead of "the other player" who was Louisville's Asia Durr. I'm guessing that Walz either too exception to that and told McGraw, "Well maybe you know her name now..it's Asia Durr" or he didn't like the blow-by that McGraw tried to do with the post-game handshake. I know that Walz has his detractors, but, IMO, he's the guy the Gophers should have hired when Oldfield/Frese left for Maryland. He was a big part of her staff in the year she was here and it was obvious then that he was going to be a head coach somewhere. And it's my feeling that he would have taken the Gopher job if it had been offered to him.

Walz loves being the jerk. If he had an issue with McGraw talking up one of her players, give her a call or bring it up in the post game presser. Bringing it up in the "get it over with" handshake line on national TV was juvenile.

Neither are the epitome of class, so no reason to take sides.

South Dakota and South Dakota State took care of business and will meet for the Summit League title.

Marquette gave up a 14 point second half lead then rallied to defeat Creighton 76-70 in a Big East Semifinal.

San Diego is going to the WCC final! 66-56 win over Pacific today.

Toreros play #1 Gonzaga tomorrow at 3:00 on ESPNU for the title.

Two weeks ago the Toreros lost in Spokane 58-54. Go Toreros!

The Summit and Horizon Leagues remain one bid leagues:

UWGB takes down Wright State 62-44.

SDSU defeates SD 65-50.

I guess the Gophers’ worst lost wasn’t as bad as everybody thought... kinda like the Nebraska loss at the time.

Gotta disagree. San Diego seems to have been very up and down but it remains a very bad loss. The Toreros finished below .500 in a not-great conference and barely above .500 overall. Their RPI (166) and SOS (173) are lousy and they weighed down both the opponents'-wins and the opponents'-opponents'-wins parts of the Gopher RPI. Bottom line: The Gophers lost to a team that would be very fortunate to get an invitation to that third-tier (WBI?) tournament, if it still exists.

In a surprisingly meek effort, Ball State fell to Western Michigan 65-54 thus eliminating even the slimmest possibility of the Mid-American Conference getting three bids. And while things went well for Buffalo (72-50 over Kent State), Central Michigan nearly coughed up a 13 point lead with four minutes remaining before defeating Eastern Michigan 67-64.

In the semi-finals, Central faces Miami and Buffalo takes on Western.

There's a Cinderella alive in the Mountain West. #7 Nevada beat in-state rival #2 UNLV 77-73 in OT on Tuesday and last night took out #3 Wyoming 67-63 in the semifinals. The Wolfpack play #1 Boise State on Friday for the title at 2:00.

No one is an at-large threat in the MWC. Every team has at least 9 losses and if Nevada beats BSU every team will have at least 10 losses.

Central Michigan fought off a severe challenge from Megan Duffy's Miami squad to win 61-58 in the MAC semifinals. Duffy had an excellent start to her head coaching career.

Junior forward Reyna Frost had 18 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in 37 minutes as No. 1 Central Michigan defeated No. 4 Miami, 61-58, in a MAC Tournament 2018 women's semifinal on Friday at Quicken Loans Arena. Tipoff was several minutes past 11 a.m.

The Chippewas (27-4) have won the MAC regular-season title in each of the past two years. As the tournament's top seed last season, they lost to Western Michigan in a quarterfinal.

Miami (21-10) was unable to overcome 32.8 percent shooting from the field (21-of-64).

The Chippewas led, 45-42, after three quarters. Miami, which trailed by 15 in the second quarter and by two at halftime, pulled ahead, 29-27, early in the third.

The game seesawed the rest of the way. Miami led, 58-55, with two minutes left. Frost's jumper with 1:04 remaining put the Chippewas in front to stay.

The RedHawks missed three 3-pointers -- all good looks -- in the final seven seconds.

Former Hoosier head coach Felisha Legette-Jack's #1 seeded Buffalo team dispatched Western Michigan 85-43 setting up the expected final with Central Michigan.

The game winner in the Mountain West Friday. #1 rallied past #7.
