Thought we could use this as I heard that spring practice is starting next week.

Spring game April 14 at noon. Accuweather has it forecasted as 54 degrees and partly cloudy. I think you can bank on that.

per Shama:

Among new players on the Gophers football roster when spring practice starts next week will be wide receiver True Thompson, son of former U all-time leading rusher Darrell Thompson. True is a preferred walk-on from Iowa Western Community College who also was recruited by Syracuse.

Darrell told Sports Headliners True has better hands and jumping ability than dad. His son is looking forward to playing for wide receivers coach Matt Simon. “I hear nothing but great things about Matt,” Darrell said.

If True (a WR) doesn't have better hands (and jumping ability, for that matter) than Darrell, a RB - he wouldn't have made it on the roster.

Hoping someone can provide spiral updates from spring ball for all our QB's this year.

Uh, Juice week, highlighting one of the most prolific anabolic steroid users ever? Seems like a good idea.

If only there was another crazy famous wrestler with actual ties to the university that we could have used for motivation...

Except that former player has stronger allegiances to other programs....

Mean Gene used steroids?

So does Spring practice start tomorrow or on the 5th? In the prerecorded interview with Sid, Coach Fleck said March 1st, but in a tweet on Monday he said in a week. Any confirmation on which it is? Or is it a deal where they can do more stuff like reviewing playbooks and stuff starting tomorrow, but can't run drills until Monday?

Some day our program will be all about more than just positive energy.

when does spring practice start? exact date?

Given that we haven't heard anything about it starting today (which was stated in the interview with Sid this past Sunday), I would assume Fleck's tweet from Monday saying it started in a week from then is correct, meaning this upcoming Monday, but no confirmation from other sources yet.

If I get an email from Coyle saying the donation is going up again I'm blaming PJF's t-shirt budget.

per Greder:

Here are three key storylines headed into spring practices:

STARTING QUARTERBACK
A year ago, the Gophers had only a morsel of Big Ten experience at the most important position on the field, a large reason for the U’s 122nd-ranked passing offense. This year, Minnesota has even less experience at quarterback even as expectations grow.

UP FRONT
The Gophers lost a trio of defensive tackles in Steven Richardson, Andrew Stelter and Merrick Jackson from 2017. Fleck mentioned interior linemen such as Gary Moore, Royal Silver and Nate Umlor — who played end as a true freshman last year — as the key reinforcements. In addition, tackle O.J. Smith, an Alabama transfer, will be an intriguing player to watch after sitting out last season.

PERIMETER PLAYERS
The receiving corps is the primary position that must improve in 2018. Leading receiver Tyler Johnson was lost to a broken hand/wrist for the final two games, and big target Rashad Still never matured, or played much, throughout the season.

per Randy:

Fleck and his coaching staff will have plenty of questions to address with this team. Here are some of the biggest ones entering spring practice:

Who’ll be the quarterback?

Who will carry the ball?

Who will catch the ball?

How is the offensive line?

Is there a new ‘Stove’?

How’s the secondary?

per Shama:

Gopher football practice begins today and will continue through April 16 but you won’t hear from the quarterbacks competing to be the starter. Coach P.J. Fleck isn’t making his quarterbacks, early enrollees and injured players available to the media this spring.

It looks like redshirt freshman Tanner Morgan and sophomore transfer Victor Viramontes could lead a four-man competition during the 15 spring practices. Don’t expect a starter to be named until sometime in August.

The annual spring game (open to the public) is Saturday, April 14 at TCF Bank Stadium and begins at noon.

SB4 is SOL for this season.

All of a sudden, depth at RB becomes an issue. Femi-Cole has to show he can handle the #2 rule behind Smith. and the #3 RB might not even be on campus yet.

If Brooks really is out, I would think that Ibrahim will be the #3 RB this season.
