Duke has a garbage campus, a high school gymnasium, and coach that looks like he is always constipated. There is no reason that a kid outside of North Carolina should want to go to Duke, anymore than kids would dream of playing basketball for Northwestern. Coach K, who has propped himself up along with the college basketball world as doing things the right way, is a cheater and a disgrace to college basketball. Hopefully he is gone forever after this season and they remove the Coach K court logo over the summer.

All the bluebloods are completely crooked. They aren't winners. They're cheaters.

It’s been fun seeing some ghers finally Finally get it after decades of utter ignorance. Simply amazing it has taken this long and this much more evidence.

Just remember that excuses are for losers and the playing field is and has been level

That "high school gymnasium" is incredible. A true bucket list venue. A fan doesn't go there for the amenities though.

Go Gophers!!

You have clearly never seen the Duke campus.

Also, what exactly did Coach K do?

If what is true about Duke, it was an agent paid for one of his family members meals. Which if you have read about the situation with Duke, you would realize that the report might have been a meal paid for a friend of a friend in the family. The reason why Wendell Carter played today and not have him sit out. Pretty hasty thread for an incident that has nothing to do with Coach K...

The Duke campus is beautiful. I believe it was modeled on Princeton. I agree, however, with the high school gymnasium remark.

Yahoo was reporting that players were directed to blue blood schools and were paid in the thousands by agents of ASM, if true most of the NCAA titles should be vacated because of ineligible players, not sure what impacts on the schools would be other than vacating wins but it goes to institutional control if true.

You need to read the whole Yahoo article. Not every school mentioned was accused of doing that. The only mention of Duke and UNC was that a family member of one player from each school might have had dinner with the Dawkins guy who is at the center of the FBI investigation. Their names were basically included for the wow factor, but at this point their involvement appears to be periphery at best. In fact, Duke is the only school I have seen thus far to offer an actual explanation of what happened. Most of the other schools are just sticking with the “we have investigated this and found that our player violated no rules” line

I've been on the Duke campus 5 times. Garbage was too strong of a word, but it's nothing special. At least not special enough to attract the top players in the country to come play basketball there every year.

We now know why there are basically 6 programs that get the top guys year in and year out.

Yep. Keep in mind this is one agent. It is extremely likely other agents are crooked.

Anyone who believes Duke is clean is an idiot.

The dude has been around Team USA basketball since about 1979. Gets to see all the top recruits.
And many on here were giddy about PJ having a series. Take that and muitiply it by what, one hundred, one thousand times?

Haha. Yes, because every high school student in America bases their college decision on their visual impression of the campus. It’s a miracle that all of them don’t end up at Pepperdine or the University of San Diego

They base their decision on the uniforms...or is that just football recruits.

The FBI initially stated a lot of the schools involved are the victims of these agents. Your paragraph reads as if it is consistent with that take.

You do know, that these are agents that are going behind the teams back to try and get an early in for future potential earnings right? Duke doesn't need to be a glamorous place, the name alone gives it an advantage when recruiting. Have you been to the Notre Dame campus? Place is crap, but when it comes to football it still holds a prestigious name.

Its no shock that players are getting paid, the one and done rule makes it a toxic environment. Guys like Ayton have to go to college for basically a semester, and then they know they are on to the NBA. What does it matter to them if they take money, not like they will have to deal with the backlash at the school, they are on to bigger and better things by the time June comes around. Arizona was caught with the coach actually talking about the dollar amount. A lot of times I would guess, it is very hard to know if these agents are contacting your players family members. I'd bet that sometimes not even the players know. Agent goes to a family member and says "here is 10,000 for financial support. Please just persuade your kid to try and sign with us when he declares for the draft." Family members take the money, and boom the kid who had no knowledge would instantly become ineligible.

As usual, you don't worry about your credibility when you post in GopherHole.

Conde' Nast Traveler names Duke University the 10th prettiest college campus in America. Spanning an impressive 8,801 acres, Duke University is dominated by Collegiate Gothic buildings, most notably the towering, 210-foot-high Duke Chapel, with a 50-bell carillon, three pipe organs, and seating for 1,800.

But the scenery isn't just about the buildings: The Duke Forest spans more than 700 acres and the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, designed by celebrated American landscape designer Ellen Biddle Shipman, is home to a world-class array of irises, palms, roses, and more.

Duke University was once again rated among the nation’s top 10 universities in a new ranking out Tuesday (today) from U.S. News & World Report.
In the new report, Duke tied for eighth place among national universities that offer doctoral degrees. Duke was ranked eighth in last year’s rankings as well.

Duke was also singled out as providing one of the best values among national universities. Duke rated eighth in that listing, which takes into account both a school’s academic quality and the net cost of attendance for students receiving need-based financial aid.

In the category “Best colleges for veterans,” Duke was tied for third.

Guess I don't know if this entire thread is meant to be extreme sarcasm or what...

But I was in Raleigh, NC last year March and drove up to Durham just because I was checking out the area as I've never been. The Duke campus is indeed beautiful, enjoyed driving around it.

You are exactly right. This stuff has been going on for years. Yet, we crucify our own for things far less than what goes on at these types of schools. Clem Haskins was a damn saint compared to some of the BS going on accross the country. Never should have even fired the guy. Should have had his back.

Northwestern is #2 on the list. Why haven’t they been dominant in basketball?
Probably because they don’t cheat.

I’ll never believe that a small private college in N.C. just happens to attract 4-5 future NBA players from around the country each year without cheating. Same goes for the other blue bloods.

It's only cheating when you get caught.

Idk...maybe because Northwestern doesn't have a basketball coach that has been the Olympic Basketball coach for the last how many years.

Players choose Duke because of the tradition and prestige the name brings. Coach K is one of the most highly praised coaches in the world. The fact is, these one and done players could care less what the college campus looks like. Duke plays in arguably the best CB conference , Duke-NC one of the greatest rivalries in CB, and Duke is probably one of the most Nationally televised teams in the country.

2017/2018 NBA opening night rosters
ACC-89 players
B1G-39 players

Thats a pretty big difference in the amount of players being put in the NBA.

Duke is and has been a big lie. William Avery anyone?

duke-unc? How about those fake tar heel classes? No wonder why the "blue bloods" are what they are. Wake up.

The Duke - UNC college basketball rivalry is a mockery of college athletics! The starting players at Duke are only enrolled for one semester and the starters at UNC take bogus classes.

Duke has 4 1st rounders on their roster right now. And they are getting the top 3 high school players in the country next year. And I’m guessing none of them grew up within an hour of Durham. How is that even possible without cheating?

Kansas has won what, 14 conference championships in a row? UNC committed basically the same transgressions we did under Clem and doesn’t even get a slap on the wrist? Calipari cheated at UMass and Memphis but now he’s “clean” at Kentucky?

Something is way off with college basketball...

Success breeds success. Duke cheats no more (and probably no less) than other blue blood programs. Kids go there because they are going to coached by a legend and compete for a natty every year. And every game- home or on the road is nationally televised with a carnival atmosphere. Those factors add up to a better chance a kid gets a shot in the NBA.

No need to try and give them facts. Its very easy to see why a kid would be attracted to a blue blood. No matter how good the team is Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, and UNC will always be talked about by national media. With AAU basketball, kids are now talking to other kids from all over the country. They build friendships and want to play together in college. If you have a kid from Florida and Minnesota does one move to the other state to attend that college? Or do you pick one of the big schools and go their together? Jahlil and Tyus are a good example, the two going to pick Northwester/Illinois/Minnesota?
