***OFFICIAL IOWA AT MINNESOTA IN-GAME THREAD!!!!*** SENIOR NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When IW went 1 on 1 on the wing and tried the step back 3 pointer early in the shot clock, he absolutely should have been pulled from the game. He's the PG and his job is to distribute the ball to the rest of the team, not go off on his own and try a step back 3, so early in the shot clock.
Would you and your ticket group feel better about last night had IW played even more and had his shot selection and defensive lapses be the reason Iowa came back to win?

Our group was in agreement that it wasn't a good shot and it's what Pitino's been preaching not to do, so pulling him after that was justifiable. But never bringing him back into the game (or giving him scant minutes after that, as the case may have been) is over the top and self defeating and ultimately foolish.

As far as the outcome of the game, it was nice to finally win again, but I agree with those here who opine that development for next year is paramount.

Agreed, but when IW or Harris were in the game with Nate, Iowas size was difficult to defend. We needed more length or would have needed to take Nate out to let IW develop.

Especially when you consider that, based on his play during the latter part of the season, IW likely is our third best player right now. McBrayer is out of sorts and far from 100%.

It was the correctly call to pull IW. It was a terrible shot, out of rhythm. Those shots are there any time. He also took it to the rim in the second half going 1 on 3 and got his shot blocked. He needs to learn to pull it back and when to attack. He is a smallish guard.

Isaiah is going to have to play against size next year.

Yes he is, but that doesn't mean we need to let him play vs. size this year just so he gets experience at the risk of losing a game.
Sending the seniors out with a victory in their final game at The Barn was far more important than getting IW some PT and experience for next year.

Really too bad we didn't do a better job of closing out that game so Mason could've been removed from the game for a well-deserved ovation from the crowd. Couldn't even get him out with a few seconds left, because we had to keep him in the whole time or risk losing the game. if you hit FTs and get defensive rebounds, that helps close out games. Good teams do that, championship teams ALWAYS do that.

If Washington is really this much of a liability, we're really in trouble next year.

Liability? Sometimes. Best player on the floor? Sometimes. Inconsistent? Yes, quite often. Sounds like a talented freshman trying to figure it out. We may or may not be in trouble next year, but Washington needs to learn from minutes played and also minutes on the bench. I’m optimistic.

Didn't say he was a liability. Said he made a bad choice in shot selection got benched, which he should have. Game was not comfortable and Nate was having a great game. Iowa size advantage was a problem when two small guards were in the game, so having Isaiah on the floor with Nate put us in bad match ups. Giving Isaiah PT for next year was not more important than winning the game.
He's a freshman, he got some quality minutes last night and did play well at times and not so well at others. He isn't a liability, but when you have an All-Big caliber PG ahead of him, why would you put him on the bench just so Isaiah can be ready for next year?

The over/under for replies on this thread is 450. :p
This is post 132. Not nearly as much heat for this game, even though it was Senior Night.
