Video and Pictures: Gopher Football 2018 Uniform Unveil: H.Y.P.R.R. ELITE

Also, we did get gold pants with these so the team can always wear the maroon helmet, maroon jersey and gold pants combo that have been sort of the main look from the last couple decades.

I was surprised not to see the maroon helmet, maroon jersey and gold pants combination in any of the pictures.

Looks like a bad high school uniform. All the talented Nike designers must be working on the Oregon task group.
Hate the oar on the helmet, but then I tired of the slogans after the 500th time.
If the argument is that the kids like the variety and newness, all I can say is "if they love these they would love just about anything we make them wear," so what's the point of changing it up all the time?

peddle the bike (or any other variation on our trite theme)

The phrase “Row the Boat” is a trademark owned by Harlan Sports Management, who happens to be Fleck’s agent. They bought the rights from WMich Univ, so are they and Fleck getting compensated for this? Is the U? Is this why it's on our jerseys? What's next, TCF logos instead of Goldy?

I'm not okay with this.

I'm a big fan. Especially of the anthracite & the white.

This was covered way back when they bought it. PJ has stated all compensation they receive from RTB goes to charity.

Looking back over the historical photos, the latter 80’s, the Mase era, and the Kill era are what I think of as a “traditional” or classic look most national fans would recognize as “MN”.

These new unis remind more of the Brewster era. I don’t mind the Gold Lid, but the rest is tolerable at best. I’m neither an old fart, a boomer, or a millennial, if we’re stereotyping here.

So you're a Gen X-er? :p

Exactly. The U of M Masonic Children's Hospital IIRC.

Other than the Wacker hiccup, The uni's have essentially looked the same for the past 40 years, with slight variations like some piping or side stripes on pants, different font for numbers.

Lots of excitement from current and former players:

Have we gotten any input from Gen Y ( or is it Gen "why?")

I'm in Generation Y, and I actually love the uniforms. The only one that I don't like as much is the Grey/Yellow combo. That combo just doesn't look right with each other. The Grey/Grey looks really good though.

I'm really surprised at the reaction on here. Since it was announced that we were getting new jerseys, the overall concern on here was that they were going to be to bold. I actually think that these uniforms are as simple as they could get. The metallic gold helmet was the only thing that really changed, and it was a good change in my opinion. Fleck was in a no win situation. People were going to hate on the jerseys regardless just because it was Fleck. Everyone knew that there were going to be oars somewhere on the uniform. People need to stop thinking of it as a Western Michigan thing, and start thinking of it as a PJ Fleck thing. If Fleck were to leave tomorrow, it wouldn't be hard to go and rip off the oar decal. Its his thing, and he is the one leading this team.

Go Gophers!!

When a kid forgets his uniform and has to wear what he finds in the rec center closet.

Couldn't they have grabbed a guy in decent shape for these?

Gen Y == Millennials, and I fall in that category so yeah :p. Unless you meant Gen Z (who are just reaching college age)?

I thought we were out of the millennial cohort and into Gen Z as the college cohort, or as I like to call it Gen WTF. J/k (sort of). Get off my lawn.

Obviously a lot of dislike for the uniforms, but why do people dislike them or think they are awful? Just because they are something new or different?

This is just my opinion, but I think the white jerseys are actually an upgrade from the previous set with the addition of that gold trim around the maroon numbers. The fonts did not change much from what I can tell.

Other than that white "nike collar" on the maroon jerseys, I really like the maroon jerseys as well.

In general, these uniforms (jerseys and pants) have not changed that much from the prior set. They lightened up the maroon a little bit and they added some trim to the numbers.

They still have the maroon and white helmets with the Block M. The oar stripe and compass is PJ's stamp on the uniforms and seems gimmicky but we still have the maroon helmet with the block M. The gold chrome is actually something different and a nice addition if used with the right combination.

The anthracite does nothing for me but I can live with that. It definitely beats the black that we have seen some other teams do.

Oh goodness

The internet has already pointed out that the paddle looks more like a maxi-pad. Caption: Did you know 60% of Gophers are wearing the wrong size of maxi-pad?

They made the paddle look like a tampon. Yikes!!!!!

I don't like the aspects of the uniforms that aren't part of the University of Minnesota - gray is not a school color, oars are not our school symbol, and metallic gold is not a school color. The rest of it is fine, I guess.

The metallic gold, gray-green jersey, with gold (but yellow-gold) pants is a weird combo. It looks like someone got dressed in the dark.
