Underclassnen MN talent

Could someone who has seen both Garcia, Prior Lake and Ben Carlson, East Ridge a few times, compare and contrast them?

I have only seen a game or too of each online.
Garcia doesnt quite look his listed 6-10, so I imagine they are both in that 6-9 range. Both can get the board and bring the ball up and find open players, drive to the hoop, or hit the 3, which is insane skill for sophmores.

Garcia seemed to be quicker and has more potential on defense to guard a tall perimeter player.

Carlson is rated on 247, I do not see Garcia. Is it about how good each team they are on is?

In a lot of ways they are similar players. They are both tall and have good length and they can shoot the ball. Both Carlson and Garcia have a good stroke and can hit the 3 ball as well. I have never seen them next to eachother, but Garcia seems like he is for sure taller. Garcia may be close to 6'10 but no way Carlson is much taller than 6'8.

As for some differences, I think Garcia is more versitile. He has decent handles and played PG for stretches this year for Prior Lake. I think Garcia is the more skilled player of the two. With that said, I think Carlson might be more athletic in terms of leaping ability. It suprises me how little Garcia dunks the ball, Carlson does that more often. I also think Carlson is further along with his jump shot at this point.

As to the rankings, I think you are right that part of it is exposure. East Ridge has and always will get more exposure than Prior Lake when it comes to H.S hoops with CDH and Woodbury being in that same section and all 3 are typically good. In my opionon, Garcia would be a better fit for us because I think he runs better than Carlson. Carlson has Wisco written all over him in my eyes. I'd be happy to get either.

Not a great reply, I know...but I am no proclaimed scout.

Carlson has a good lead now. They are very different players. Carlson's dad played at Iowa St.

I've seen Garcia play several times this winter, I live in PL. He probably not 6'10" but he is a legit 6'8" or 6'9". Either way for that size he has quickness, handle, range and passing ability. He has range from 3, can play inside and outside. He could play both the 3 or 4 in college. He brings the ball up most of the time to start the offense. He is a rare talent that will probably blow up with summer with offers and interest from P5 schools.

What do you think of Robert Jones?

We also have gotten in the last four years

Lofton (I know he left, but he did come back to Pitino)
Lynch
Jarvis Johnson (Who had Michigan State and Iowa State offers)
Amir Coffey (Choose us over numerous power five offers)
Michael Hurt (Got on him early)

We can't get everyone man. Last year was tough, but Ruevers didn't have interest and is a perfect fit for Sconnie as was Davison. I venture to say we may have gotten Travis or Vaughn if Pitno was hired earlier. They hated Tubby, otherwise Thompson left early, Mar wasn't a fit. You could argue that Theo John may hurt, but we will see. Sim's was the only one that "was reasonable" that we really missed out on that we went after hard in the last 3 years for MN talent. Pitino is doing a pretty good job in our state.
It's also not fair to say that Harris and Washington were not better pick ups that Wright yet. So far sure, but he was able to go into a situation that he was the man right away. I love and want MN kids just as much as the next guy, but we need to get guys who fit our system and we need to understand we don't get to keep everyone.

Really? We're counting Lofton, Lynch, Jarvis Johnson, and Michael Hurt as recruiting coups? Only two of them have touched a basketball here during a game, and only one was/is a legitimate player....and he derailed the best chance this team has had at a tourny run since the 90s because he couldn't take no for an answer.

Let's stop pretending we're good at recruiting here. It's been an absolute failure that we haven't been able to land any of these good players (this year is yet to be seen) outside of Coffey. Trying to spin it any other way is just lying to yourself.

And why should guys like Tyus, Tre, Vaughn, Travis, or any of the others mentioned be unreasonable? That's a convenient excuse, IMO. You can't even play the "it's Duke, etc" card because we're hemorrhaging good players to Marquette, Texas, UNLV, Indiana, Dayton, Xavier, etc, while we have kids like Gaston, Konate, Hurt, Fitzgerald, etc taking up spots.

Many have seemed to convince themselves it's bad luck and/or we didn't have a chance. Not true. We fired a coach right before the greatest recruiting class in state history was coming through. That could be helped with a couple of months of foresight. Identifying which "lower-tier" players will develop into players is also part of it. If you're always wrong, at some point it's time to admit you've done an awful job in-state and stop blaming the universe.

If Pitino can't start getting some of the motherload of talent that's right under his nose, he's going to get fired. That's how this program will be elevated, not by bringing in Syracuse snubs from NYC fresh off the And 1 Mix Tape Tour.

Not near as polished as Garcia. He probably more like 6'7" or 6'8". Great kid! Probably a mid-major 4. He has a good frame to play D-1 hoops just doesn't finish or handle like a P-5 kid or even Garcia.

Lol.

Yes we are counting them. They are from MN and were regarded highly enough when they committed/transferred in.

We are not hemorrhaging kids. It is similar to every other state in the Country. We are just spoiled because we have no other D1 comp, we think we should get every kid. Doesn't happen especially when the bluebloods come calling. Didn't say they were unreasonable, but you can't expect to keep them all. Pitino has done better at getting us in the convo at least again with them. We were in Tre's final 3, Gas and Konate were first recruits and Pitino didn't run them off like many other programs du. That is for a different conversation whether that is good or bad.

Part of why Tubby was fired, was because he had wrecked relationships with coaches in the state and was out of all contention with the big three. We wanted to save the chance to get Jarvis and Amir. Nate Mason and Dupree were not misses for "lower-tier" talent. Pitino did screw himself with some others, but they are gambles. It happens. He does need to hit on a few more though I agree, but everyone misses more than we pay attention to..

Agreed, he needs to produce better to keep his job this year. I don't know many coaches in the country who would not have taken Washington over Writght or Davison. Some pan out, and it's not like it was a total fail either. Colorado wasn't good and hence why Wright got a ton of time. Same can be said for Wisky last year. Lets let some things play out.

Pulley roster is out, they're going to be a lot worse than past years: https://www.d1circuit.com/roster/show/4032897?subseason=483962

Yeah D1 MN and Grassroots Sizzle are taking all the talent this year because of Hurt and Suggs respectively. D1 has Tyrell Terry, Zeke Nnaji, Patrick McCaffrey etc.

Grassroots doesn't have their roster out yet but I know they have Dain Dainja, Chet Holmgren, Terry Lockett, etc.

Why are two Iowa HS players on the D1 MN team?

I believe there was some controversy regarding the head of one of the Iowa AAU programs. So that's why you're seeing some Iowa players head north to play with some Minnesota programs.

The Iowa Barnstormers, Patrick McCaffrey's former AAU team, was a very solid program. They played in the same league as did D1 Minnesota, which was the highest Adidas league. The Barnstormers recently had some serious issues (see below) that caused a number of kids to leave. McCaffrey went to the closest Adidas program.

Lol, what exactly prompted you to type this out without doing (clearly) any background research? As another poster mentioned, the Barnstormers were really good (arguably a top 5 Adidas circuit team last summer).

These 2019 and 2020 classes are good. We need to keep them here
