Do any of you people focusing on the Conf standing even understand that all 3 teams in 3rd, 4th & 5th have played 20 conf games and UMn's only played 18?
So basically UMn gets a free weekend vs all three of those teams.
UMn, if they win out, are GAURANTEED to finish 3rd, no worse.
Gophers would finish with 41 pts.
Ohio St only has 34 right now, so if they go on the road and get swept by #1 Notre Dame this weekend, we'd be GAURANTEED 2nd place, if we won out.
We gain our 2 games vs PSU this weekend as PSU with just 25 pts doesn't play this weekend, but we do.
Just a split with Wisconsin bumps us AUTOMATICALLY ahead of PSU going into next weekend.
A sweep of Wisconsin bumps us ahead of Wisconsin and way ahead of PSU going into next weekend when UW doesn't even play, so any points we win vs OSU just puts us that many points further ahead of Wisconsin.
Then finally, Michigan's done with conference play after next weekend. They are only 4 pts ahead of us, so if we win out, we are guaranteed to pass them up, and that is if they somehow sweep Notre Dame and MSU, neither of which is a sure thing much less even likely.
So basically, there is almost no way we finish in 6th, if we only manage splits from here on out, everything could go wrong, and we could finish 6th. For example, Wisconsin could go on the road and beat OSU & PSU could go on the road and sweep MSU, and Michigan could also sweep MSU or get a win vs Notre Dame.
So basically both Notre Dame and Michigan St have to play poorly and for us to play Jekyll & hyde and then, maybe, we'd finish 6th in conference?
But no matter who against, if we just win 4 of our next 6 games, we finish in 5th AT WORST and could climb as high as 3rd. If we sweep both UW and PSU, but get swept by OSU, the worst we could finish is 4th, IF Michigan wins 3 of their 4 games, and this isn't even that likely.
If we win 5 of our last 6 games, we finish AT WORST, 4th, and Michigan would have to win all 4 of their remaining games to finish ahead of us. 1 loss by Michigan and 5 wins by us GAURANTEES us a 3rd place finish, AT WORST.
And no matter how we rank in the Conf standings, we are ranked #9 in the PWR and #8 in the RPI.
