Minnesota Recruiting Class Overview
P.J. Fleck has had a year to work, and it’s showing with one of the program’s best recruiting classes in a long, long time.
The key to this class? Infrastructure.
There are a few good skill players coming in – running backs Bryce Williams out of Florida and Nolan Edmonds out of Atlanta are great gets, and Georgia native Rashon Bateman should be a No. 1 target – but Fleck wanted linemen.
The defensive front landed a few excellent pass rushing prospects led by Alex Reigelsperger out of Ohio, and the tackles are there in Elijah Teague from Chicago and Minnesota native Logan Richter.

OFFENSIVE LINEMEN
Not only did the Gophers sign on a ton of guys for the offensive line, but they came up with a few MASSIVE blockers.
Daniel Faalele is a 6-9, 390-pounder who can block out the sun, and fellow Bradenton, Florida native Curtis Dunlap is a 6-5, 362-pound blaster of a Big Ten guard.
Everyone else will need time to pack on the pounds, while Faalele and Dunlap need to get their respective games in place. Overall, this is the nucleus to build around.

Bateman has the potential to be special, and Dunlap should grow into a killer of an interior blocker, but part of the IMG Academy, he was wanted by Georgia, Florida State, and Miami, but he should be the anchor of the Gopher line in the near future. He should be a cornerstone blocker and was the key to Fleck’s class.

QUARTERBACK
The offensive line needs some help, and the secondary is a problem, but with Demry Croft leaving the program and Conor Rhoda done, the Gophers need an untested option to step in at quarterback. That’s where Vic Viramontes comes in.
The JUCO transfer out of California has been all over the map in terms of his route to getting to Minneapolis, but this was his best option. The 6-2, 225-pounder has the arm and the moxie, and he’s got just enough time logged in from the JUCO ranks to be ready to roll from the start.
