Of course it was obvious. Some people are dense and just looking for an argument.

The quote I saw posted here was not clear. Perhaps there was some other context on twitter or wherever it was taken from that would clarify, but what I saw here was not clear.

Calling people dense is a bit negative. I thought we were trying to avoid that kind of thing here.

Serious question (I've seen those same inconsistencies) - do you think he does it due to carelessness (sloppy reporting) or intentionally lying?

It's tough to discern his motivation. He defaults to twisting the truth in order to make the current staff at the time look as good as possible (he did this with previous staffs as well). Maybe he thinks he needs to do that to keep his relationships? I don't know, but I would rather be honest than a sycophant if given the option.

Yup, wanting people to be honest is dense. Yes, that's the ticket.

He was honest. You think he was obligated to look back at every recruiting service, which he never claimed to do.

He wasn't. If he meant 247 comprehensive, he should've said so. He left it open because he's attempting to make it look like a bigger deal than it is.

As you’re making his language a bigger deal than it is.

It was obvious. He was discussing the recently released 247 composite results. Why would he compare them to anything else, yet alone a service that ranks fictional players? Should he also have looked up Billy Bob’s recruiting service from Blaine?

It wasn't. There have been multiple rankings sites in the internet era. His statement was false, and knowing his work, almost certainly intentionally deceitful.

This is a pedantic argument even for Gopherhole. JG is spot on though - if you're discussing a specific ranking why would you need to specify that everything you subsequently say is referring to that specific ranking? It's baffling that anyone could be confused by that.

Well, for one thing, Burns refers to Kaliakmanis' 247 rating, and then goes on to state that it's the 2nd-highest behind Clint Brewster in 2007, except that 247 didn't exist in 2007 and thus Brewster was never rated by them. Oops.

Ok, kids from Michigan. His high school wears wolverines helmets, he's got offers from MI, Notre Dame, tOSU, Bama, etc. Would be one hell of a get but not holding my breath. Go big or go home though, I guess.

Yeah, he's not coming here. He'll end up as a high 4-star (if not 5-star) and will likely go to Notre Dame, Michigan, or the SEC.

PennLive: 2021 Big Ten football recruiting rankings: Ohio State leads the way early in next cycle

2. Minnesota Golden Gophers | National rank: 4

Minnesota at No. 4 in the nation? It really must be early in the cycle. The Golden Gophers have three commits — tied for third-most in the nation — which gives them the most in the Big Ten. And it’s a bit of a unique class. Coach P.J. Fleck got commitments from Illinois twins Athan and Dino Kaliakmanis. Athan is a four-star dual-threat quarterback who ranks No. 6 at his position, while Dino is a three-star wide receiver who ranks No. 62 at his position in the class. The other member of the class is three-star athlete Sam Jackson, who is the No. 270 overall prospect in the class.

per Shama:

Fleck has verbal commitments for future recruiting classes that he referenced in front of the fans including the 2021 group that lists 247Sports four-star quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis from Illinois. That three-man 2021 class has been ranked so far as No. 4 in the nation by 247Sports.

per Sid:

JOTTINGS

• As recruiting picks up for 2021, Gophers football coach P.J. Fleck described how he decides when to offer a player: “Every case is handled differently, but you do not know [if a player will succeed]. We’ve offered [high school] freshmen before, and then there has been guys we have had to wait all the way through their senior year to offer. I don’t know if there is a time to say, ‘That’s the right time.’ ”

per Sid:

• Coach P.J. Fleck and the Gophers football team brought a lot of recruits to campus recently. “This is a busy time because it’s a time for us to get live evals of 2020 recruits, but also 2021s, 2022s,” Fleck said. “It’s a very important time for us right now, and we are all over the country.” According to 247 Sports, the Gophers now rank 24th in the country in recruiting for the Class of 2020.

Sam Jackson is now listed as a soft commit. Looks like he's picked up offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Virginia Tech, Missouri, and Purdue since he committed. Additionally took unofficials to Illinois, VT, and Mizzou

Was he up here for the BBQ/camp?

ESPN just put out their top 300 for the 2021 class and have Sam Jackson at #52 as well as Athan Kaliakmanis at #237. Too bad Jackson is a soft commit right now but seems like his recruitment is really going to take off in the next few months.

Kpai and Mahlman are both top 200 and Sullivan is top 250 as well.

Yeah, we need to hang onto Jackson if that ranking is anywhere close to accurate.

I don’t have a good feeling about keeping Jackson. I’m not sure what he did to get such a high ranking. He played WR last season, and had a decent season. He’s switching to QB this season.

He doesn’t appear to be very committed.

After watching this video, I think QB is his preference, so if the other schools really are recruiting him as a QB, it explains a lot.

Jackson wants to play QB in college. Fleck was up front with him that our offer was at WR. Jackson is well aware that AK is committed here.

If Jackson finds another P5 school that he feels will give him a chance at QB, he'll flip and end up there. If he realizes that they are most likely giving him lip service and he will end up being a WR wherever he goes, we have a good shot to hold onto him.
