Gopher Volleyball 2018

Adanna Rollins seems to be hitting freshman wall. Have to be concerned with her play going into NCAA tourney. As much as the team has relied upon her, will promise an early exit if they don't find a contingency plan to replace her midseason stellar play.

Also I hate the dependence this team has on another freshman in CC Mcgraw. There were many balls she just did not defend in the same fluid manner she did midseason. I think reliance on here is going to add another element of uncertainty in the same manner as our reliance on Adanna Rollins.

This goes again to Hugh's inability to coach at the collegiate level, in my opinion. He has shown to be one of the best volleyball coaches of adults at the highest level of play where his strategy and process can be implimented by adult athletes. He has been at the U of M for 7 years now and has still not shown the complete ability to know how to develop, not just young players within a season, but a collegiate team through the grind of a season. His best teams were the ones with a senior laden roster where they were essentially very adult, professional and developed players, and he still couldn't win the national title. It is concerning he has stayed with the roster of players throughout the season similar to all the seasons previous. We haven't seen another promising player arise within a season to buoy the grind of a long season. This is a retirement job for him, nothing more.

No offense, but I think you hit a wall.

No kidding. 19-1 in the conference? Big 10 champs? Hugh clearly can't coach a lick. ?

This has to be the dumbest post I have ever seen on here.

I've watched a lot of college sports and it sure seems like veteran teams win most of the titles. Even the championship teams with fantastic freshmen usually have some key veterans steadying the ship when things get rough. "And he still couldn't win the title." Like it's an easy thing to do and other teams aren't really trying. :D

Now about the game tonight...looks like Hugh had Nielsen serve for Pittman most of the match tonight. I wonder if that's just for tonight or we will possibly see it again in the tournament.

If we had two OH that played all six rotations, I think it would be more possible to have a service specialist for the M1. I don't think there are enough subs for both, depending on how many rotations happen in the set. The total subs is 15 per set.

Hugh does occasionally does sub out SSS for Martin at front right to increase blocking, putting Nielsen in to serve for Pittman at the same time. But that costs double the number of subs, of course.

Selection show coming up. Wish it was earlier so it didn’t interfere with the Vikings kickoff. Anything besides the #2 or 3 overall seed is another screw job by the NCAA

Of course the show's start will likely be delayed by the length of the basketball game (this year it's Memphis v Charleston). It's a tradition.

The ladies draw the overall No. 2 seed and will host Bryant in the first round.

Other two teams headed to the Pav in the opening round are Colorado and South Carolina.

Nebraska is No. 7, Kentucky is No. 10 and Oregon is No. 15. All and all, a good draw for the ladies imo.

Two seed for the Gophers. No complaints there.

Don’t have to live Minneapolis to win the national title. Lets do it.

Interesting that in the eighths they could be getting a second chance with Oregon. That was one of the few times I've heard McCutcheon be critical of one of his teams. He didn't think they came to play in that match. Too bad Oregon will have to play the Gophers here, if that rematch does happen.

Why is that too bad? Personally, I like it. ;):)

Karch Kiraly, when asked about some freshmen who've impressed him most, mentions Rollins and McGraw.

Ha! Yes, I meant it was too bad for Oregon, because given that previous loss, the Gophers will be especially psyched up for that match, plus they'll be at home.

Gophers first-round match is Bryant University, a school of 3750 students in Rhode Island. Bryant's RPI last week was 203, six spots ahead of Rutgers. Potential second round matches: South Carolina (RPI #32) or Colorado (RPI #46).

Pac-!2 got eight teams in -- Hawaii made it -- and Big Ten got seven, including five of the top eight seeds.

Our tickets for next weekend lack a section number; they just have row and seat. The confirmation e:mail contains the section number. Could be a little interesting for some fans.

I called the ticket office about the section and they sent out a second e-mail to correct it. The second e-mail did not have a link to print tickets so I will be calling the back again.

I'm nervous about Colorado and I hope South Carolina can knock them out. Plus then we can see Morgan and McLean banter back and forth!

Interesting. The Gophers lose in 5 at Penn State, go down two spots in the RPI, and go up one spot -- from #3 to #2 -- in the coaches' rankings (primarily because BYU dropped from #1 to #4). And last week the coaches had Penn State #7 and Wisconsin #8, separated by 13 points. Wisconsin then wins at Penn State, and stays at #8 in the coaches' poll, only now trailing Penn State by 16 points. The coaches must really have given Penn State a lot of credit for beating the Gophers. I like what the committee did, putting Wisconsin at #6 and Penn State at #8.

Me too , but mostly about the Gophers' uncertain play of late. They need to go on another winning sreak.

I'm hoping now with the new season they will put it together. The first season gets long and exhausting. Now for the Gold!

They need to end the season on a 7 game winning streak. It is currently at 1. 6 more to go!
