All Things Tyrell Terry Recruiting Thread (Class of 2019 PG)

Thanks for posting the article. I saw Terry play last week and I was impressed. He's a smart player with good athleticism.

Terry is really a very good player. He would be top 50 in my opinion if he weighed more than 8 pounds. He is really fluid and has outstanding quickness. I've seen him play a half dozen times and only one time did he do something that made me say, "What the f--- are you doing?" which is extremely impressive for a HSer.

Pound for pound he’s pretty impressive!

I don't get it either, point guard is a huge need going forward and the guy is sitting in your back yard. Clueless.... he's clearly good enough for the high major level.

I don't necessarily disagree. That said, Baylor and Stanford are not Duke and North Carolina in terms of hoops. Pitino seems to try for really highly rated guys first.. so perhaps there are some big names he is going after.. that said, I wouldn't doubt this kid gets an offer soon.

I think people get a little too worked up over offers. If he knows the Gophers are interested, which I'm sure he does, then offering seems less important. Is he really going to be offended if the Gophers are his 5th offer, not his 3rd?

Gophers have a solid Delasalle pipeline (Jarvis, Gabe). He isn't going to accept a scholarship now and even if he did he can't sign. Give it a few months and they'll offer if they want him.

I'm glad we offered - I like this kid a lot:

Hate to lose a big time real pg prospect like Terry. Sick of having combo guards or shooting guards having to pay pg for us at times.

In his latest Scoops Podcast, Doogie reports that Xavier assistant Ben Johnson is visiting Terry this week:

Terry is a nice player, want to get to some of the D1-Mn games and get a preview of how he and Hurt will look playing together for the gophers.

Ben better watch his back.

KSTP: DeLaSalle Guard Tyrell Terry Reacts to Gophers Basketball Offer

DeLaSalle junior guard Tyrell Terry certainly has lots of options when it comes to college options. After Gophers head coach Richard Pitino offered Terry a scholarship Tuesday after school, he now has a total of nine offers. Those other offers include Stanford, Iowa and Butler.

Pitino and assistant Rob Jeter came to watch Terry workout Tuesday morning and he then had Terry call him after school, which is when the offer was officially extended.

Bright, well spoken kid.

I hope Pitino and his new staff can secure this recruit

I don't think I've ever noted this about a HS player before, but this kids focus was absolutely remarkable when I've seen him play. I was taken aback that I noticed a players focus. Just absolutely locked on. Albeit small sample size.

I like Terry he is smart and sees the court well. He has handles and a solid jumper. Terry needs to get stronger but that will come. Larson from CDH locked him up pretty good but Terry played composed and did not force much.

That's one of the things I like about Terry, he'll get matched up with a guy like Larson who is a better athlete and can stay in front of him but he doesn't force anything and just takes what the defense gives him. Really solid all around PG and it'll be fun to watch him lead without Gabe around next year.

Does this mean that any hope for Carton is gone ?

The Gophers really made Carton a priority on the opening weekend. I believe they had at least one member of the staff at every game and Pitino personally watched at least one game. That info comes from Ryan James.

You also asked in this thread (or another one) about who the Gophers had in Dallas this past weekend. I listened to the Pitino interview from Sunday (WCCO radio interview) and Pitino said he was currently in Dallas, so he was there for at least one of the sessions.
