Jumbo Fischer to Texas A&M

I don't get this one. Seems like a step down. Florida has slightly better talent than Texas, he already built FSU into a perennial title contender and already won it there once , they have more tradition etc. The only thing A&M has over FSU is the fact that they can say they play in the SEC. Better facilities too I suppose.

Maybe he just wanted a breath of fresh air and a new chapter in his life.

1 & 1a reasons to move.

And the raise he's probably getting.

Don't forget Jimbo is a friend to the U's Masonic Children's Hospital. Their son has Fanconi Anemia, and the U does major FA research.

Ethan rocks that Dubnyk jersey very nicely!

His son goes to Houston regularly for treatments, and that will now be a 1.5-hour drive instead of a 2- or 3-hour flight and all of the flying-related headaches.

Oh, and he's also getting a gigantic raise as part of what is reportedly a 10-year deal.

- Didn't get along with his AD or boosters at FSU
- Haven't seen the contract yet, but he got a big raise if it's anywhere near what was being reported (10 yr/$75M)
- Worked with the A&M AD at LSU. Probably had a good relationship

Seems to be somewhat of a theme this coaching carousel season that the relationship with the AD is important to major football coaches.

Things with the Tallahassee PD may not be what they used to be for the Noles. Might be a good time to move on for Jimbo.

Ah ... didn't know about his son being treated at TMC. That is a huge piece of the puzzle.

Was at a Gopher bball game about 5 years ago where they honored Jimbo at halftime. They brought out Christian Ponder along with Jimbo and his family. Before they said what it was about I thought I had passed out and woke up in Tallahassee at a FSU game. Turns out Jimbo and his family were being honored for giving more than a million dollars to the U's children's hospital. Was a pretty cool moment. He got a deserved standing O

I've been a Noles fan since the late 80s. I in no way wanted him to go, but understand his reasons. This year shouldn't be held against him, and it looks like A&M sees it that way.

What was their deal this year? No QB?

Doesn't seem logical to me after signing an extension less than a year ago but he must have some good reason$. Maybe getting away from the ex?

I don't think that's it. Supposedly the ex-wife and son would move as well.

From the Houston Chronicle:

"A person familiar with the entire process said while Fisher is divorced, his former wife and two young sons would also be willing to leave Tallahassee, Fla., to be closer to the father in his new job. The youngest son has Fanconi anemia, a life-threatening medical condition, and Houston's expansive medical center is considered one of the best in the world."

Rumors of Leach to Tennessee, and almost certainly Frost will go to Nebraska - it has been whisper quiet there all week, no other candidates, not a word about anyone but Frost. The state awaits its savior Saturday after the Am Conference championship game. Frost was with Chip Kelly as wide receiver coach at Oregon all four years Chip was there, then continued at Oregon as OC. He brought elements of that wide-open offense to Central Florida and is expected to do the same at Nebraska.

Money, getting away from the ex, his kid gets treatment in Houston. He gets a fresh start, but recruiting in Texas is not as good.

What is going to ruin the SEC is the obscene money paid coaches and the demand for immediate and sustained success.

How many more Tennessees are there going to be in the SEC, LOL!

What you can't win games without a competent QB? When did this blasphemy occur?!?

Jimbo under-achieved this year, that's all there is to it. I had him as a 11-1 coach.

If you compare his record to the record LAST YEAR, you'll see he was a much better coach last year.
I'm not saying Jimbo should be fired, but I'm going to spend the next 100 days polluting this forum mocking anything he says or does.

Wouldn't have been a good thread without a fanboy post.

Is Jumbo Jimbo's obese brother?

Bwahahaha, just noticed that.

I really hope someone on the staff next year gets tagged with a "Jumbo Fischer" nickname. A real Mangino type.

Or maybe open a restaurant at TA&M called "Jumbo's"
