From a sport talented Minnesota High School kid ---

Hockey over football.

I don 't think any other BTN state kid would answer it that way.

Hockey team wins games, trophies and championships.

Though a number would take basketball over football.

And the football Gophers have a huge need for 5'10" 170lb white guys who run 5.2 forties!

Ahhh the classic "let's blame the fact that we have kids that play hockey" for us not being good.

I would still prefer to see multi-sport athletes. There is no reason why a HS athlete cannot play football and hockey. Unless someone (parent, coach, website) has told them that they have to specialize if they want to get a scholarship.

Joe Mauer played three sports in HS. I don't think that hurt his career. Granted, he was an exceptionally talented athlete. But he still played three sports.

The real shame is the kid who chooses to specialize in one sport, and still doesn't get a scholarship. all they did is dump a lot of time and money into one sport, and cost themselves the opportunity to have different experiences in HS. It's not like you can go back later and play HS football again.
