Penn State's radio guy said the Gophers were giving him a little extra rest thinking he has thrown a lot of pitches last few starts and he is expected to pitch today.

Gophers finish off the sweep. Reggie Meyer gets the win going 5 innings allowing no runs on 2 hits walking 1 and striking out 4. Jeff Fasching pitched 1.2 innings 2 runs(both unearned) 1 hit 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. Jackson Rose went 1.1 innings no runs 1 hit 1 walk 1 hit batter and 3 strikeouts. Max Meyer finished things out pitching a perfect 9th striking out 1. Reggie only threw 60 pitches as they said the staff was being a little cautious with him as he has had a little bit of a tired arm. Terrin Vavra, Micah Coffey, and Ben Mezzenga each had 2 hits to lead the way at the plate. Gophers next action is Tuesday hosting NDSU.

Last night was the most peaceful night of sleep I've had in days.

Looks like the Siebert opener has been pushed to Wednesday and will be against Augsburg. Looking at both teams schedules it looks like either April 18th or April 24th are the best options if they really want to reschedule the game maybe May 9th could be a option too.

Offense showed up in a big way again tonight. 3 hits a piece for Terrin Vavra, Jordan Kozicky, Luke Pettersen, and Alex Boxwell. 5 RBIs for Micah Coffey 3 coming on a stand up triple with the bases loaded. Really good to see Jordan Kozicky have a nice night at the plate with the 3 hits including a homerun and just missed another homerun. Eli Wilson also added a homerun and it was a inside the park homerun as the centerfielder made a diving attempt and the ball rolled by him to the wall. Freshman Easton Bertrand made his first appearance of the season as he pinch hit in the 8th. Reggie Meyer started and struggled with location today. He went 2.1 innings and gave up 6 runs on 7 hits while striking out 3. He wasn't hit overly hard at all but the hits just seemed to find enough space. He was very unlucky on a 2 run homerun to left that looked like a very high medium deep popup but the wind was blowing out hard 25-30 mph to left at that time and the ball just kept drifting and landed barely over the fence. Brett Schulze came in and stabilized things. He got the win going 4.2 innings and allowing just 1 run on 2 hits walking 1, hitting 2 batters, and striking out 4. Josh Culliver pitched the final 2 innings and allowed 3 hits but did not give up a run.

Gophers move to 5-0 on Purdue's home field this season. Patrick Fredrickson started and struggled a little grinding through 3.1 innings allowing 4 runs(3 earned) on 4 hits while walking 1 and hitting 2 batters. Nick Lackney got the win and pitched well out of the bullpen. He went 3.1 innings and allowed 4 runs only 1 earned though on 3 hits 2 walks 1 hit batter and striking out 3. Ryan Duffy made his return from injury going 1.1 innings allowing 1 hit 1 walk and striking out 1. Jake Stevenson finished the game with a perfect 9th. Another big day for Micah Coffey going 3-4 with a homerun 3 runs scored and 5 RBIs. Jordan Kozicky had 2 hits including a 3 run homerun. Cole McDevitt had 2 hits including a homerun. Terrin Vavra had 2 hits including a 3 run homerun and Ben Mezzenga had a 3 hit day. Gophers scored multiple runs in every inning except the 7th and the 9th. Defensively the Gophers were a little lackadaisical and committing 3 errors and on most of those occasions Purdue took advantage and got at least 1 run off it. Hopefully the Gophers can get another good all around effort and finish off the sweep tomorrow.

He is batting .411, which is second in the B1G. Kid from Illinois is batting .457. I would guess he is in the top 20 in all of college baseball.

Gophers lose another game to weather as rain and travel curfew forced todays game to be canceled. That is at least 3 games now with this one and the 2 with St. Louis canceled. Also have the NDSU game that was postponed but not rescheduled yet. Next scheduled action is Tuesday at home with South Dakota State and then Iowa comes to town this weekend.

Thanks! Those are some gaudy numbers, even for college baseball.

With rain in the forecast and the travel restriction known, was there thought of playing 2 yesterday?

Not sure, there was rain around yesterday too but it stayed clear. Going into the weekend I actually wondered if they might play a doubleheader Friday because of the potential weather. I believe the coaches usually confer about it and most in the conference are good about coming to some kind of agreement but in the end I think the home team gets to make the final decision about whether they will move a game to a doubleheader or not.

If the NCAAs started today would the Big Ten get 6 teams in? Seems way to high but I don't know who you keep out. Indiana and Illinois seem to be a lock. Minnesota seems likely in. Iowa and OSU are bubble. Don't know what to make of Michigan...17 game winning streak is excellent but it is a garbage schedule. 19 of their 31 games against +150 rpi
