High Motor Murph was unbelievable, well deserved!

After one of the top opening-night performances in the country, junior forward Jordan Murphy was recognized Monday as the Big Ten Player of the Week. Murphy earned the award for the second time in his career, after doing so February 13 last year.

Murphy shattered his career highs on Friday against USC Upstate. The San Antonio, Texas native had career-high totals in five categories, finishing with his 22nd career double-double of 35 points and 15 rebounds. Murphy is the first Minnesota player with 35 points in a game since Andre Hollins recorded a career-best 41 points vs. Memphis on Nov. 23, 2012.

Murphy’s career-bests were for points, field goals made (13), field goals attempted (22), free throws made (9) and free throws attempted (15). His previous career-high had been 25 points versus Iowa on Feb. 8, 2017.

His scoring and rebounding totals is the highest in a single game by any Big Ten player in the nascent season, and his scoring total ties for 20th highest chool history with Willie Burton (1990 vs. Georgia Tech) and Mychal Thompson (1976 vs. Purdue.)

Murphy and the Gophers are back in action tonight, facing Providence in the Gavitt Tipoff Games. Tipoff from the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence is set for 5:30 p.m. CT.

Completely deserved! Here's to hoping that Murph has a BIG game tonight!

He did exactly that. Murphy put the team on his back in the second half of the Providence game and dominated. Player of the game again. Wow!
