Since going to an 11 game schedule in 1971, the last 6 years (including this year) are the first time ever that the Gophers have won 5 or more games in 6 consecutive seasons.

Also ties for most wins in any 6 year stretch (excluding bowl wins). If you include bowl wins we would need 1 more win this year to tie.

Here is the data showing five consecutive 5-game or more wins. Today makes it 6.

The team in that stretch have an average finish of 5th place in the B1G West. This is where we hope PJ Fleck will change with better recruiting.

That seems a bit misleading because there has only been a 12-game season since the early 2000s?

Correct. 5-6 is a more difficult task than 5-7

But still pretty good. People like to knock Brewster but even with him we were bowling 2/4 years.

For current high school seniors the gophers have been bowling 14 times in their lifetimes.

That shows how truly horrific the program has been.

It correlates fairly well with the average recruit ranking for a period of five consecutive years how each team finishes in the B1G West standings. The only exception is Nebraska. They have the highest average recruit ranking higher than Wisconsin. Yet Wisconsin has a 1.67 average finish compared to Nebraska's 2.50.

Bottom line: We need to recruit better athletes.

And let them do what they do best, not stop them from doing it.

Thank you for that perspective. With that info in relation to UW recruiting ranking then Minnesota has to scout better and develop better.
