What you saw today was a trust in the process. We got better from last week to this week. Had a great practice. A team meeting that got real, really fast. I told them they had practiced better this week than they have all year. Showed their courage and strength with how they played today.

Thought they needed to start fast. Two teams that are 4-5 have to hit them first. Can take the wind out of them if you strike first. Did that right off the bat with the kick return touchdown.

Thought Rodney ran spectacularly. Kobe ran tough and at an elite level. Demry did a tremendous job running the offense and showing what he can do.

Shout-out to Tyrone Carter for supporting the program. He was the last player to open the game with a kick return for a TD.

Did a great job decided when to pull and hand it off. He made those decisions. Past weeks he didn’t make those reads. People rallying around him. He has a bigger voice and is making the offense his. Thought he played really really well. That’s how he has to play every week.

Said the coaches have been teaching the “slight of hand” on the keep. Have to make it look the same every play. Fleck said he got faked out on one of the keeps where he thought Rodney fumbled.

Said the offense got simpler this week. Wanted to keep it tight and concise. Thought Demry mastered the game plan this week.

Felt like they would have opportunities for more QB runs based on Nebraska defense. Players make plays and Demry made a lot of plays.

Said Oregon State was the last time he’s seen this team play well collectively. Mentioned the keys are execution and consistency.

Kobe has incredible feet for big guy. Has good vision. Lot of big backs that don’t run behind their pads, but he does. He has a lot of pride. He finishes his runs.

Said they have a leadership council which is 36 members. Picks new captains each week based on what they do during the week. Five guys earned the ‘C’ this week and they all played well. Look at the five top performers against Nebraska, those five will likely be among them.

Making tackles and swarming to the ball, today, was a big change from last week. In every phase of the game and all levels of the defense they improved.

On the fourth-down stops:

Those are game-changing plays. When you are able to stop a team that is trying to go for it on fourth down, it’s huge. It’s basically like a turnover. That’s huge for the defense, that’s huge for the offense. When those happen, things are good. It puts you in a great situation. It’s really a game-changing play, especially in the red zone. Gets you excited to see all your brothers out there swarming to the ball.

Main goal wasn’t to get to a bowl game. Just trusting the process right now. As far as postseason, we aren’t worried. Just focused on the next game ahead.

Said Nebraska didn’t quit but their demeanor and passion changed a lot. That’s something you notice as a defensive player and that’s gets you amped.

Rodney Smith
On his kick return TD:
“Parted like the Red Sea.” All I had to do was run straight. All credit goes to the guys up front blocking for me.

When you have a QB running like that, it’s much easier for the running backs.

Always great when the defense is out there making plays. We as a whole team feed off each other, that’s what elite teams do. It’s fun to see your brothers out there playing well.

Demry Croft
Didn’t know he set the rushing record for a QB until it was brought up in the presser. “It’s kinda cool. Thanks to the offense live. Lots of green space to make plays.”

Said they looked at schemes all week and thought they could be effective with the read option.

Said Rodney and Kobe played hungry. If they didn’t break a big run they got angry. They ran down hill and made people miss.
