That game was a thing of beauty and maybe the highest point of the Jerry Kill era for me. The Gophers got strong play from DeVondre Campbell, Damien Wilson, the defensive backs were strong, and those inside screens to David Cobb were a thing of beauty.
I know this game could very well be more like Jerry Kill's first game with the Gophers at Ann Arbor and I don't want to bring this game up to talk about Kill/Claeys vs Fleck, but just to recognize what a fun season and game that was and I feel confident that the team will return to this level in a few years.

Have any memories to share about this one?

Was a great game. The final score is closer than the game felt. Michigan got a late td and were never really in the game.

Leidner might have played his most complete and error free game. He ran well and hit some big passes. I think this game followed the 1 pass completion game vs SJSU (the Streveler game) where Leidner sat out with turf toe.

Copying and pasting my post from after that game:

I was DYING to go to Bierman to meet the team to celebrate. Unfortunately, I had to work overnight at the U that evening... So after my shift - 8 AM - I figured I'd drive down to the athletic complex and try to catch a glimpse of the jug. So I'm driving up and down the street and I see someone I think I recognize. I pull over, roll down my window and shout, "Hey, are you Cameron?!" Nice guy he is, he comes over and starts chatting with me. I tell him what a great game he played and how excited everyone is and how important the win is - the guy is all smiles. Then I ask "Is the jug in there?" And he goes, "Yeah man, you wanna see it?" He jumps in my car and shows me where to park. We walk into Bierman and he is introducing me to people as we pass. Then we get into the training room and he introduces me to the trainer: "This is my new friend." They got the jug out and handed it to me! He pointed out the 2011 game - his redshirt year. 58 - 0, and said what a tough pill to swallow that was. Anyway, I gush and tell him how monumental the win is - "It's only the second time in my memory (and third in my life) that we've beaten MI." And I'm just in awe. We're taking pictures and I'm posing with Cameron and the jug and then my phone died. No problem. He took down my number and took a handful of pictures said he'd text em to me after the morning meetings. Awesome! Go in for a high five, thanking him profusely, and he pulls me in for a bro hug - wasn't expecting it, almost knocked the wind outta me.

I was super psyched driving home. Went to sleep and when I woke up later that day, sure enough, he'd sent me the pictures he'd taken.

Super class act. Nicest guy you'd wanna meet. I wish him only the best. Be it football or whatever, I have no doubt he'll be successful.

I remember your post back then and thanks for sharing it. Very cool story and Cameron was a great player!

=)

Love the end of the video with Ced and the jug and the fans!

I was at the game. It holds a very special place for me because it was the last time I'd see my father-in-law.

My wife is a Michigan grad, her parents are split allegiance to State and UM (BIL went to State). We made the trip to Ann Arbor - and it was a harrowing one. We were supposed to fly direct to Detroit but because of plane issues we had to route to Denver and then Detroit. A 2-hour plane ride turned into a 10-hour adventure. My wife wanted to cancel and we seriously considered it, but we went through with it, arrived super late on Friday night into Detroit (might've been like 11pm) and met FIL and MIL at the campground.

We went to breakfast at The Fleetwood Diner that morning - one of wife's favorites - and went and set up shop at the golf course for tailgating. It was a great time, lots of walking around, good-natured ribbing (UM was not good that year so everyone was in similar spirits).

Watched the game, cheered the whole time, rushed down to the field and got to touch the jug as it made its way around. Wife was angry but the game was so lopsided she had time to get over it before getting back to the car :)

Flew back home, and got the call Monday morning FIL had been in an accident while felling a tree. Immediately made the 10-hour drive back to Michigan to be with family and start a whirlwind of month, emotionally and physically.

We still have the gameday program from that day. Can't bring ourselves to throw it away. It was a great last memory for us all, and I remain damn glad we didn't cancel our trip before it got started.

My favorite memory isn't just that we won but seeing a Gopher go into the Big house and just put a beat down on Michigan was a thing of beauty. Even though their recruits had more stars coming out of high school it was clear that we had the better coaching staff and the better team. That was probably the last straw for Hoke, just like we got Pelini fired in Lincoln that year as well.

Great story, thank you for sharing.

Go Gophers!!

I watched the game from my dorm in comstock. I remember I had to get going somewhere (don't remember what for), and slowly getting ready to leave so I could watch the last few seconds of the game.

Yes, thank you for sharing. Glad you were able to spend that day with your FIL.

Gophers top tacklers in 2014 game: Damien Wilson (NFL), Eric Murray (NFL), Jack Lynn (free agent Bears), Cedric Thompson (drafted NFL), DeVondre (NFL), Botticelli (Chargers free agent), Cockran (some camps), Elmore, BBC (NFL), NdondoLay (Winona transfer), Richardson (NFL?), Craig James (has had some success at SIU), Travis (Patriots reserve roster). Antonio Johnson and Derrick Wells (free agent with Bucs) were starters...

Gophers top rcvrs, rushers, specialists in that game: David Cobb (some NFL), Maxx (NFL), Mitch, Plsek, Fruechte (some NFL), Maye (NFL free agent looks), Roderick, Donovahn, Woli (CFL), Berkley Edwards, returner Myrick (NFL), kicker Santoso, punter Mortell.

oline that ran all over Michigan: Campion, Epping, Tommy Olson, Foster Bush, Lauer, (Goodger TE, Plsek TE , Miles Thomas full back)

2015 team hung with Michigan to the wire...

top rushers were Smith and Brooks
tight ends were Woz and Lingen
oline featured true frosh Moore, true soph Mayes, Lauer, Bjork, Pirsig
Mitch at QB...KJ and Woli as WR talent

starting defense up front was Cockran, soph Richardson, soph Stelter, Hank Ekpe
linebackers were DeVondre, soph Campbell, junior Lynn
secondary starters were Murray, soph Ayinde, Antonio Johnson, Myrick...BBC in mix
Santoso nailing fgs, Mortell punting

depth from frosh Hardin, soph McGhee, frosh Huff, frosh Huff, frosh Holland, frosh Shenault, frosh Cashman, frosh Still

four of top 10 tacklers from that game still on team: Campbell, Poock, Antonio Johnson, Lynn, Murray, Ayinde, BBC, Richardson, Myrick, Stelter

Hands down it was Theiren Cockran's monster hit on the QB that you could just tell the Meatchicken fans were rattled about. It was kind of like..."whoa this is not your normal Minnesota team". Jerry had that team ready to play and they pounded them. It was awesome. Easily my favorite Gopher game next to the Jug game in the 86 with Lohmiller's kick to win. Not expecting a win this week, but it sure has been fun the last few years with being competitive, hope that trend continues.

I noticed watching the highlights how much talent there was on both sides of the ball. Elmore had a big sack in the game as a freshman as well.

Yes, that was a big hit and I think he got a roughing the passer on it which negated an interception on the play?

I was there as well and it was AMAZING! Went to the Twins-Tigers game this night before at Comerica. Twins hit like 4 HR's and kept the Tigers from clinching the Central, so that was sweet. Woke up early the next day and secured a table at the Irish pub not too far from the stadium. Hung there until about an hour before kickoff when we proceeded to buy several cans of Steel Reserve to fuel our cheering for the day (they were selling 2 for $3 at a convenience store if I recall). Watched the Gophers kick a$$ and take the jug. One of the highlights of my fandom in any sport!
