All Things Zeke Nnaji Recruiting Thread (Class of 2019 - Gophers Have Offered)

Not sensitive at all. Merely pointing out just some of the reasons to go elsewhere. There are plenty of reasons to stay home as well. I just have a non biased view of what young people have experienced growing up. With the advent of ESPN there are fewer kids for two generations that have a loyalty to a home state school. Yes, success opens more doors .

Agreement here. There are plenty of reasons to stay home and plenty to move away. Sam Dekkar stayed. Herro and Tokoto left.

Kids may want the bright lights of a big city and they may want to get away to a small campus. Either way, it's the team that makes the kids commit. MN has not had cohesion to induce these commitments.

If Pitino starts winning and utilizes the tools Fleck is utilizing right now (pro team support, social media etc) he can get somewhere w the 5 star kids. An non established p5 school had to differentiate itself with no track record to fall back on. Mn is one of those.

Right, if blue bloods came calling me when I was 18, I'd listen and likely take it if it meant more exposure, national TV, talking heads love on espn.

But there is also the piece of me that understands how different MN is and can be if the kids stay home (big city, only p5 school in state, pro sports and media exposure)

Rumor has it Nnaji doesn't want to stay home for school and that includes Wisconsin and Iowa. Unless something changes drastically or he gets a Kentucky/Duke-esque offer, Kansas and Arizona are firmly the top choices, with Kansas being ahead of Arizona. Minnesota isn't even really in the picture.

Would be great to get Nnaji, but if we're not a front-runner, I don't think I'll be too heartbroken if he turns down Wisconsin and Iowa and leaves the Big Ten entirely.

He may think signing with a blue blood guarantees him a final four or championship. That is not for certain. There is a lot of parity in the league. Stay home and create something special!

If he is looking for a guaranteed Final Four scratch Arizona off that list. Cats never live up to the hype.

Gophers arent even an option for him right now, its time to move on.

Haha actually though. Some Arizona fans are ready to be done with Miller because of no Final Fours.

I don't believe I have ever seen a family really enjoy their journey through such a great list of schools. How ever it turns out. I don't think any school should feel like they didn't have a fair chance. I believe that the whole family is genuine in their praise too. What a great example. I hope we make their final cut if there is one. OnWisconsin. Go B1G

Arizona? Sean Miller? Why? Underachieving at it’s best.

Because Arizona has guys drafted in the first round nearly every year. The only thing that likely really matters to the top recruits. Arizona can sell them on, "Come to Arizona and we'll make you a lottery pick." (...even if the kid would be a lottery pick no matter where he went.)

He will get drafted if he plays at Rochester CC, South Dakota School of Mines or Cal-Poly San Luis Obispo. What has Miller done with that talent? Nada.

Is he even ranked high enough to be a 1 and done?

He looks like a tooth pick! Not exactly NBA ready if you ask me.

He'd be better off playing for a coach who could develop him for the draft after his sophomore year.

There's no way Nnaji is a one and done, it's pretty shocking to me that he is ranked as high as he is.

Allow me to fill in for Dr. Don and say - so many experts, so little expertise

per the KC Star:

Nnaji meets with many coaches
Zeke Nnaji, a 6-foot-10, 215-pound senior power forward from Hopkins (Minn.) High School, has held in-home visits with coaches from Kansas State, Arizona and Indiana so far this week with Ohio State due in on Thursday, according to Zagsblog.com.

Last week, Nnaji, the country’s No. 37-rated player in the Class of 2019 according to Rivals.com, had in-homes with KU’s Self as well as coaches from Kentucky, Georgetown, Baylor and Minnesota. UCLA coaches will visit on Monday.

“By end of September, he’s going to cut his list down to five and those are the five official visits that he’s going to take in October and early November. Then toward the end of November he’s going to decide where he’s going to go because the high school season starts Dec. 1 and he wants to get that over with,” Zeke’s dad, Apham Nnaji, told Zagsblog.com.

Of KU, Zeke Nnaji told Rivals.com: “Coach (Bill) Self came in for an in-home visit on the same day Kentucky came through so that was just crazy to have two legendary coaches in my house. With Kansas, Coach Self was just telling me how he coached Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid at the same time and made it work. You can have a top recruiting class come in and he was saying how he makes it work every year. They’re a great program and I’m looking forward to getting down there for a visit at some point.”

He said he’s likely to attend KU’s Late Night and Kentucky’s Big Blue Madness events as part of unofficial visits.

No disrespect to Zeke intended, but is he a top target for all these blue bloods? Recruiting ranking suggests he might be more of a back up plan for places like UK and KU. I have no idea, just curious.

Zeke declares a top five of Kansas, Arizona, UCLA, Baylor, and Purdue.

Ryan James says this isn't a surprise.

A small relief to see that at least Wisconsin got eliminated along with us. Also no Kentucky in the top 5. Not sure I even knew Purdue was recruiting him. Baylor seems a little confusing, though they've given early offers out to a handful of Minnesota kids, including Tyrell Terry from 2019 and Jalen Suggs, Dawson Garcia, Kerwin Walton, and Dain Dainja in 2020.

I think he has an uncle or some sort of mentor that's an assistant at Baylor
