Media Prediction Thread: Illinois at Minnesota

From College Football News:
Minnesota will have its moment. The ground game will grind up 250 yards, the defense will hold up early, and it’ll finally be an easy game for a team that can’t seem to do much of anything without a fight.

Illinois will throw well enough to not be out of it, but it’s not going to be consistent enough to make a second half push.

Final Score

Minnesota 34, Illinois 17

Athlon chimes in again:

Final Analysis

Both teams enter this game ice cold, but the good news is this matchup presents an opportunity to put an end to a long losing streak and pick up that coveted first Big Ten win in the process. The reality is this is a must-win as it relates to either team’s hopes of qualifying for a bowl game.

Minnesota lost a close game at home to Michigan State last week and is starting at back-to-back road dates after this one. Golden Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck would love to use this game as a springboard to carry his team through the second half of its schedule and should be able to do so against an Illinois team that’s really hit the skids.

Prediction: Minnesota 28, Illinois 17

Go Gophers!!

Off Tackle Empire (SB Nation) is going with the Gophers. Score prediction is 24-14 Minnesota.

Murphy chimes in:

Illinois at Minnesota, 3:30 p.m. ET, BTN

Murphy: The Gophers get a chance to break a streak of three straight conference losses. Rodney Smith and Shannon Brooks have been relatively quiet through the first half of the season. Don't be surprised if both top 100 yards on the ground against Illinois' defense. Minnesota 35, Illinois 17
