per the Chicago Tribune:

Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck chose to keep mum on who his starting quarterback would be Saturday when the Gophers host Illinois.

But it seems clear the ball will remain in Demry Croft's hands after he replaced Conor Rhoda before halftime against Michigan State last week and fell just shy of a comeback in a 30-27 loss.

"They both have experience and when we get to Saturday we'll play the best quarterback who gives us a chance to win," Fleck said Tuesday on the Big Ten teleconference.

Was Fleck being coy? Keeping his cards close to his vest to keep Illinois on edge?

Go Gophers!!

"Rhoda had passed for 53 yards on 5 of 12 throws before being pulled. He and Croft had split time earlier in the season, then Croft sat in the second half of a Sept. 9 loss to Oregon State before being suspended for two games for violating unspecified team rules."

Did not realize the Gophers lost that game.

Not only that, but while Croft was sitting out in the second half of that loss to Oregon State, he managed to score on a long 64 yard touchdown run.

The media has gotten incredibly lazy. And stupid.

He's treating this Illinois game like it's a must win, rightfully so. I'd say it's hot seat time for the guy.

No reason at all to publicly announce who will start this weekend. Also, the starting QB may not be QB who ends up with the most snaps and series.

I could easily see having Rhoda start the first series and get the team into the flow of the game. Let Croft see the defense from the sideline, then put him in.

In any case, Fleck isn't treating this game any differently than he'd treat any other. Winning is the goal each week. But he's not going to take short cuts.

Ignore, just trying to troll GHers...started this in a thread as well.

And it got them banned! (Well, maybe more the fact that 90% of what they did was attack Heather Fleck on this board)

If Croft doesn't start there is something wrong in Fleck's head.

Lt. Bligh replaces Demry with Rhoda. "I am the 1st, ***damn your hide!"

What a collection of talent in this film...

Seriously, this has to be the worst kept personnel decision secret in the history of the Gopher program.
