In an almost total reversal from Friday night, the Gophers took control early and successfully limited Penn State's opportunities.
There were highlights: Brannon McManus scored his first goal as a Gopher and added two more for a third period hat trick. Mittelstadt also scored off a nifty deflection and continued demonstrating a wide range of WOW! moves. His teammates really need to anticipate his passes.

Also, Lucia (and staff) were uncharacteristically and demonstrably upset about two non-calls. One was for interference which I didn't see and the other was for a hit from behind sending Szmatula into the boards in front of the Gopher bench. I didn't see the Szmatula hit either even though we sit about midway up behind the bench.

Anyway, it was a lot more fun than Friday's fiasco.

Hit on Szmatula draws a one game disqualification from B1G.

The Big Ten announced Wednesday that sophomore Penn State forward Nate Sucese is suspended for one game following a review of a play during the game against Minnesota.

Sucese will be ineligible for the home game against American International on Thursday.

The hit was not called a penalty during the game, but after review, league officials deemed it illegal.
