I think it's the "Playing at home, stretch the game to overtime".

Not many go for 2 when down by 4. You go for 1 so it's a 3 point game.
 

Because if you don't make a field goal no longer ties the game. Plus the way we were playing I'd say the chances of converting a 2-pt conversation were definitely below 50/50.

Seriously? With no timeouts and approximately a minute left in the game....the chance that you get back into field goal range is still not great.....let alone driving all the way down the field for a touchdown.

Correct. So if you miss the 2 and end up with the ball on their 30 with 3 seconds left...you are throwing a Hail Mary rather than kicking a 47 yard field goal.
