Let's Try Again: North Carolina Infractions Report Friday

If there's any truth to this, that's explosive.

It’s not explosive, it’s the way the NCAA is set up.

The NCAA basically is a trade association (not sure if it is, technically, but it has the same characteristics). Full time employees such as investigators do most of the real work, and mostly are unbiased and not subject to political winds. But the big decisions are all made by committees made up of the association membership (ie representatives from universities).

It’s not a given that this behavior is unreachable by the NCAA just because the committee on infractions interpreted the rules as such. Clearly the enforcement staff disagrees. Between the two of them, I’d bet the enforcement staff is more knowledgeable and less biased. These people are independent NCAA lawyers and investigators (like former police detectives, etc); the COI are a bunch of university and conference admins.
