2017 College Football Head Coach Fire and Hire Thread

I wonder why Tennessee is reportedly pursuing Brohm and not PJ? (SARCASM) Brohm's buyout appears to be 5.9 million (if after 12/31: 5.75million). PJ's buyout, with new contract is only 5 million.

Hmm...why is Brohm being pursued? He's more expensive.

Wait...I know, PJ isn't interested.

disclaimer: UT is nuts, but...

Nailed it. That is the only reason he isn't coach at a number of places. This is his dream job.

Why exactly are you rooting so hard for a coach to fail? Pretty sad.

He's not...look at my signature. He's doing the opposite by rooting for him.

I would never do that. You on the other hand....

Rubber and Glue. Your go to. My kids used to do that too, but they are in Jr High now.

Not sure who to feel worse for.

1. Purdue for losing It's coach.

2. Jeff Brohm for now coaching the mess that is Tennessee football.

I think Brohm will regret leaving Purdue.

Hard to feel sorry for Brohm, he's getting a huge payday. Sucks for Purdue though.

I wish Claeys great success in his next coaching gig. I have never declared my hatred for him daily on a message board.

Because one works in Minneapolis and the other worked in West Lafayette

With all of the coaching changes this year, I am glad Mark Coyle made the move he did last year with PJ Fleck. Things could have been handled better with Claeys but he was never the long-term answer to this football program regardless of the 9-win season in 2016. Coyle had a plan all along and he was ready to get the guy on the top of his list at just the right time last year.

You look at the current Tennessee situation as well as the Brewster and Kill searches under Maturi and it's nice to have an AD like Mark Coyle who is prepared and ready to make a move. If Brohm does leave Purdue for Tennessee, that is a tough pill to swallow for that school and program.

Well....this should be fun.

I don't think I'll believe anything about the Tennessee coaching search until there is a press conference with the new coach there in the flesh

Even then I would give it a couple of post news conference days just to be safe.

Tennessee is trying way too damn hard....the answer was always there.

They won't hire someone until they've gotten a raise for everyone.

I'm making sure nobody calls me just in case their AD calls. My name has to be coming up soon.

Oregon State going with Washington's offensive coordinator Jonathan Smith:

I know it is always easier to spend other peoples money then your own. Still this article makes alot of sense to me.

If I were Tennessee at this point I would make a ridiculously high offer to Jon Gruden where he cant say no. He has all the leverage.

https://www.metro.us/sports/jon-gruden-tennessee-football-coach-update

If I were Jon Gruden I wouldn't take the Tennessee job for double what Saban makes, given the rest of his options...not the least of which is making $5M per to talk about football on TV a few Mondays a year and otherwise hang out in Tampa and be a football geek who comes and goes as he pleases. Trade that for sweet talking entitled 16 year olds in random living rooms? No thanks. Gruden's said as much himself.

Why does Tennessee obsess over him so much, anyway? He's a pro coach who was a grad assistant once there for a year back in the 80s. He hasn't been on a college staff since being the WR coach at Pitt in 1991. He runs complex professional schemes and demands a ton from his QB. Even a dump truck full of money doesn't change that he's a risky hire for a college program. Just ask fans at Nebraska about Bill Callahan.

Is NC State that much worse than Tennessee?? What the heck has Tennessee done to supposedly wield this type of power? They certainly don't win SEC championships.

I hope no P5 coach, current or former, even gives them a whiff. Make them hire Memphis's coach or something along those lines.

Why do Tennessee backs like Arian Foster and Alvin Kamara not become studs until the pros?

Answer? Hire Glen Mason...build an army of pulling guards, get the zone blocking going, win 9-10 games every year but get rocked by Bama. Occasionally have a YouTube-worthy implosion against Vandy. It's better than what they have been getting.
