Media Prediction Thread: Minnesota at Purdue

Dienhart back to DINKhart status I see.

Final Analysis

This game will be about emotion vs. preparation. Will Minnesota's emotions and ability to bounce back from a tough loss be enough to overcome Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm's extra week of preparation? The odds aren't good, especially on the road and lacking a passing attack to counter that which Purdue boasts. If David Blough is healthy, Purdue's offense will likely be too much for the Golden Gophers' defense. The Boilermakers spread the ball to a variety of playmakers as well as any team in the country. Minnesota simply doesn't have the personnel on that side of the ball to account for Purdue's weapons. Minnesota's only chance is to lean on its strength — running the football — and hope to limit Purdue's possessions. I'm just not sure the Gophers will be able to get that done consistently.

Prediction: Purdue 34, Minnesota 20

Go Gophers!!

Fair assessments considering Gophers depleted secondary and last week's inability to establish a running game against a bad Maryland defense.

Sports Illustrated chimes in with all 7 reporters picking Purdue:

MINNESOTA AT PURDUE (3:30 P.M. ET, ESPN2)

Joan Niesen picks Purdue: The Boilermakers are coming off a loss to Michigan followed by their bye week, so some may have forgotten about their 3–0 start. This will be a tight game, but Purdue’s offense has enough firepower to top P.J. Fleck’s team.

Go Gophers!!

After last week's vanilla attempt against Maryland you can't fault anyone for picking Purdue by a couple touchdowns. We were gawd awful last Saturday.

I have forgotten, since they haven't won 3 games yet. Pretty sure they lost their first game...

Dienhart picked Purdue to beat Michigan and that worked out well!

Haha. Well it is an ongoing joke where anyone who picked against the Gophers is a Dink. Mostly started with the ESPN B1G Ten blog and articles Brian Bennett wrote about the Gophers.

Ya, Maryland sucks. So does Texas. So does USC.

By their usual standards, yes, Texas and USC do suck. Texas will be lucky to make a bowl game and USC will be in the back end of the top 25 at best by season's end.

Your boyfriend lost straight-up at home as a 13-point favorite. He deserves every bit of criticism he gets for it. He doesn't need you to defend his honor.

Journal & Courier chimes in:

Prediction

A victory could be a springboard into the rest of the season for the Boilermakers and keep momentum on their side after the first month. Brohm has the program moving in the right direction but a win over a solid Minnesota team would signal another sign of progress. The Boilermakers probably got ahead of themselves going into Michigan game but Brohm has brought his players back to reality. Purdue 25, Minnesota 19

Absolutely every media type will pick Purdue in a close one this week. But is Purdue really improved or a warmed over version of before? Mizzou is on the level of Oregon State, Louisville only seems to be able to beat bad teams, and while they looked good for a half against Michigan, they still lost by a bunch.

The rush to judge Purdue as "back" might be a little premature. This feels like a true toss up game.
