How many of the following Gophers can you name?

October 1, 1938
Minnesota 16 Nebraska
A 9-yard scoring run is recorded by a back from Austin who had the nickname "The Little Indian". He went on to help the Redskins win one NFL title and appear in 3 other championship games. At age 49 he was shot to death by his wife in a Washington suburb.

October 2, 1948
Minnesota 39 Nebraska 13
Crosby native throws a touchdown pass and catches a pass for another score. He went on to be the head coach at Minnesota-Duluth for 40 years (1958-1997).

October 3, 1959
Minnesota 24 Indiana 14
A back from Wisconsin Rapids has a short scoring plunge. He had been the leading rusher for Minnesota's 1-8 team in 1958.

October 4, 1975
Minnesota 21 Ohio University 0
A back from suburban Pittsburgh has a 42-yard scoring run and 110 of Minnesota's 270 rushing yards. He was Minnesota's leading rusher in 1975 and he went on to earn a Master's Degree in Human Services from Concordia, which made possible a career at the Associated Clinic of Psychology in Minneapolis.

October 5, 1963
Minnesota 24 Army 8
Another one of Warmath's talented black players drawn out of the south (Winston-Salem, NC) before integration has a 7-yard scoring run. His best Gopher moment came in 1962 in a loss to Northwestern. His 50-yard scoring dash helped the Gophers tie the score at 22-22 before Minnesota's nearly impregnable defense yielded 2 late touchdowns to the Wildcat passing offense led by Tom Myers.

October 6, 1984
Minnesota 33 Indiana 24
The Gophers end a 10-game Big 10 losing streak and Lou Holtz gets his first conference win. A back from Memphis has 2 scoring runs and another touchdown on a 67-yard pass play. He had been Minnesota's leading rusher in 1982, a year that began with such promise but became a death march.

October 7, 1995
Minnesota 39 Purdue 38
Chris Darkins has a school-record 294 rushing yards but the Gophers are behind until the very end. They need a diving 2-point conversion catch from a Canadian import who stands at #3 on the all-time Gopher yards receiving list.

October 8, 2005
Minnesota 23 at Michigan 20
Gary Russell has a stunning 61-yard sprint late in the game, setting up Jason Giannini's game-winning field goal. Before being knocked out of the game, Bryan Cupito throws a 20-yard scoring pass to a tall wideout from Columbus, Ohio who stands at #4 on the all-time Gopher yards receiving list.
