Gophers open as -12.5 favorites against Maryland

It does seem really high - I thought it'd be in the 5.5-7.5 range. At any rate, it's weird because I was told here in the last few days that Maryland would be favored at TCF.

If partially directed at me, I'll fess up. Last week I mentioned something about if the spread was anywhere in the Gophers +4 and Gophers -4, it would be a tough decision on which way to go. In fairness, though, that was before Maryland lost their QB and before I watched them look terrible. After watching their game on Saturday, I no longer believed they could possibly be favored against us.

All that said, I don't feel comfortable betting on this game in either direction. I could see us winning by a couple TDs, but I could also see it being a tight game because, although Maryland's defense isn't great, it likely will be the biggest and fastest we have seen. I think we will know a lot more about our offense after Saturday...I'm fairly confident our defense will be to more or less able to shut them down with their 3rd string QB.

No one is blaming you. A lot of things were exposed this week.
I would have said the same thing, until Saturday.

What planet do you live on? Did you see Maryland play this week? They looked awful.
Not to mention we're going to be playing against their forth string QB, welcome to ignore list, damn troll.

It's a tired bit. Predicts Gophs to under perform in every way while praising Fleck. The responses have a Bot feel to them.

Sure wish WCCO's Bronco was still around. She could tell you. She was the best sports prognosticator Minnesota has ever had. But then even when she was wrong, who would care...she was hot! (The old farts will know who I am talking about)

Yeah, she was hot. I was just a kid back then.......

the longer the Croft thing goes on, the less chance I see that he returns to the team. And - not to sound cynical or anything - but, as long as the team is winning and Rhoda is playing reasonably well, there's no pressure or need to get Croft back. On the other hand, if the team was struggling, or Rhoda was not playing well, at least some people would be calling for Croft to return.

It will be interesting to see how Fleck and his staff handle this.

There was a lot of talk that Croft would be looking at a minimum of two game suspension. Maryland will be the 2nd game.

Westgate opens-up with the Gophers -11.

Maybe you're right. I don't like Lou Holtz but I agree when he says, "a different team shows up every week." Because they looked awful last week doesn't mean they will this week.

She was married to Bobby Cox.

Any doubt about whether or not she was hot, check out Youtube video...What's My Line episode 840 dated 12/11/1966
As an aside, she predicts Green Bay to beat Dallas in the 1966 NFL Championship game by 4 points on the show. Final score of the game turned out to be Green Bay 34 Dallas 27.

Line has settled in at -11 at the two Vegas shops that have opened the game. However, only two shops with playable lines suggests to me there is some uncertainty surrounding the Maryland QB situation.

My question is this: who's better, Hill or Bortenschlager? And does it really matter that much? It sounds like they are both pretty bad.

Obviously, I'm no Maryland QB expert, but I'd rather the Gophers see Bortenschlager for the simple fact that he is the immobile one of the two. If Hill plays but can't use his legs, then I'd call it a push.

Hill is viewed as the QB of the future. Some Maryland fans were not upset when he came in, thinking they were getting a head start on his development.

Oddshark has consensus spread at -13.

Yep, so does Vegas Insider and Station Casinos. Westgate has it as -12.5 and CG Tech (7 Las Vegas books) -12. MGM Mirage, Boyd and Wynn now have pulled it from their boards and William Hill has stayed away from it completely. All probably because of injury questions.

Thanks for the update ace!
