STrib's Randy Johnson first out of the gate via a Q&A with the Daily News Journal:

What’s your prediction for Saturday's game, and what do you think will be the determining factor for Minnesota?

Two big things for the Gophers will be how well their offensive line plays – it struggled vs. Buffalo but was strong against Oregon State – and how well the secondary covers Richie James. As for prediction, I’ve pointed to this game as one that might be a bit of a trap for the Gophers. I’ll give them the nod in a close one, 27-23.

Erik Bacharach of the Murfreesboro Daily News Journal: I think the Gophers pull out a tight one, 31-27.

College Football News:

Final Score

Minnesota 23, Middle Tennessee 14

Middle Tennessee (1-1) at Minnesota (2-0), 3:30 p.m. ET

Given the unlikelihood Middle Tennessee can establish a ground attack, the success of the passing game will mold the outcome. Star wideout Richie James will probably have a productive day, but the Blue Raiders can only spring the upset if second and third options make plays like they did against Syracuse. However, the Gophers have a deeper secondary—and a better pass rush—than the Orange.

Prediction: Minnesota 30, Middle Tennessee 22

Athlon chimes in:

Final Analysis

A win is a win, and P.J. Fleck's teams win by any means necessary. His teams have won 17 of their last 20 games, and they've done so by playing sound defense, pounding the ball and making big plays through the air when needed. The Gophers are buying into both his energy and his philosophies, and you can expect them to be locked in on doing whatever is necessary to stop the Blue Raiders. Look for another high-scoring effort from Minnesota, this time with a couple of more big plays from Conor Rhoda through the air, as the Golden Gophers wrap up the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 3-0 record.

Prediction: Minnesota 45, Middle Tennessee 16
