Doogie Tweet: Gophers Might Not Have All Their Regulars UPDATED: Croft won't play Sat

Oof, no bueno. If he's still on the team what are we looking at here? Academic issues? Tardiness or other team rule violation? Telling Fleck where to put his head after the starter news?

Whatever the case, too bad. If it's in Demry's control he needs to get his head right. Could be a transfer situation otherwise.

I hope that he gets the help, takes care of business, and that he rebounds as quickly as possible.

Yes he failed a test... a drug test.

Not sure if you're joking for this is not even close to what I was told.

Also, if you're joking, it is in poor taste to assume a kid failed a drug test.

And you were told what?

And you were told what?

I was told he kicked in a dorm room door of a girls dorm room. As far as I know, it wasn't malicious/assault/etc. It was more of a joke but he broke the door off the hinges and something else in the room broke.

Fleck made him go back the next day and apologize. Croft wore a suit. Girls accepted it. Croft paid for/someone paid for the new door/other broken stuff, etc.

Again, I can't confirm this is why he is away from the team but this happened after the Buffalo game, maybe that Saturday?

Not good for Demry. PJ has said words to the effect that the quarterback is the most important guy on the team. That he wants him to lead the whole team, including the defense. You trust that guy as a coach. Not just easy to forgive and trust it'll never happen again...whatever it was. Surprising Demry messed up unless it was a reaction to Rhoda starting which doesn't seem likely unless it was the cause to do something dumb.
Academics seems very unlikely to me.

If it was the door...at that point he probably thought he was starting...so it's just very dumb. But if that was it....would he have practiced and played vs Oregon State? That doesn't seem to fit because you are saying PJ knew last week. Dunno

Is she a cheerleader?

I do have a source and until more comes out I won't say anything further. The only reason I posted was because people were starting to run wild with speculation. For what it worth I haven't heard a word about Croft kicking in doors.

I feel like if this were it, he wouldn't have played at OSU. Fleck also said here that the decision to start Rhoda happened before Crofts issues, which also implies its something that has happened in the last few days or so.

FWIW, I thought he'd be sitting out against OSU once I heard this.

We may never know. Will be interesting to see if Croft rejoins the team at some point this year.

Thanks Taj.

“But like I said at the beginning, if you do not do the right thing academically, athletically, socially and spiritually, and you do not uphold the high, high expectations of our culture on and off the field, you will not play, and it does not matter who you are.”
...

“I want to respect his privacy as much as I can, but again, I’ve made myself clear from Day 1 when I walked in the door that nothing is more important than the culture,” Fleck said. “If you need help in other ways, whatever those ways are, it’s my job as an educator to get you those resources. And that is what I will continue to do for every kid on this football team, if they need that, whether that is a learning specialist or whatever it is. Nothing ever will sacrifice the culture. Winning won’t either, or having two quarterbacks; that will never compromise our culture.”

I will leave it at that. This is a teaching moment for all of the team.

Now, Seth Green will have his chance to show what he can do on the field.

Well it's possible both of you are right.

Fleck referring to this as "Year Zero" is becoming more and more ridiculous with each game we win.

Not sure what you mean?

Year Zero is a Bill Connelly (I think) coined term to refer to a head coach coming into an absolute train wreck, dumpster fire situation. Think Jerry Kill in 2011...crap talent, terrible academics, etc. It means that it will take the new coach a full season to clean up the mess left behind by his predecessor, and therefore the clock really doesn't start to tick on his rebuild until his 2nd season in charge.

I really really really like fleck. However, he is great at selling himself/the future and even better at killing any expectations for this year. The way he talks, this team is lucky to get across midfield at any point of the game besides the coin toss.

Year Zero for Fleck (and Coyle) is culture change on and off the football field. If a QB doesn't fall on a fumble he sits on the bench and loses his chance to be named the starter. If a QB damages a girls dorm room though his roughhousing he is suspended for the next game. The chances are close to zero either of those things would have happened under the previous coaching staff.

How is this even relevant? Why does it matter if she is a cheerleader or not?

Guessing it's a sarcastic reference to the issues from last fall.

Positive and negative incentives are BOTH needed. I respect this decision all the more that it is clearly an important player. PJ Fleck continues to impress.
