Tyler Johnson

It was one half. Buffalo took him out after halftime. All his yards and catches were in yhe first half .

Per Fleck, they changed the offense to preserve the lead. Didn't feel comfortable throwing a lot up by 1 score. Said Johnson was open all night.

Threw the ball 17 times after half. Johnson was targeted 4 times. Zero catches.
FYI, they threw the ball 15 times in the first half. So, they changed the offense to preserve the lead by throwing more.

I was repeating what fleck said. Didn't say it was correct. You can throw differently (to backs, TEs, bubble screens, etc) and still throw. Doesn't mean they didn't change the offense.

hey breakin the plane,,,in case you didnt see it...this is what it looks like when tyler jonson puts his nuts in your face...

Now the only questions is how long he plays before going pro...

Would a "/s" help you catch these things?

Thats awesome!! Thank you for posting. I'm buying his NFL jersey. Even if it is the Packers.

Only 2 games but Johnson has the look of a legit Big Ten receiver which is something we have been lacking for a while. Now the question is would he have developed into this under the old staff?

Obviously there is no way to answer that but hopefully he continues to play the way he has through the first two game because it would be awesome to see our offense with a legit option on the outside again....has been far too long since that was the case.

Wolitarsky and Maye weren't legit Big Ten receivers?

We have had at least one very good to great receiver every year. Every year. Memories are short 'round here.

Why?

My boy TJ is getting his shine on! And he's from North High school in MPLS to boot! Start of a trend w MN high school players wanting to come to the U and finding ELITE success during their time there. On another note I think the "lack of big ten talent in recent years" narrative is super exaggerated. That mindset needs a o change. We're so stuck on being "poor ol' MN" that we tell ourselves there's been no talent on this team when there is and has been. That run of DBs drafted was comparable only to Ohio st and some other team I don't recall, there was Maxx, hageman until he mess d up recently, etc and a bunch of other fringe guys like Cobb and Fruechte. This is what PJ is talking about when he says we need to change our mindset around here.

Both definitely were.

TJ could set Gophers records if he is able to keep this up. About 270 yards in two games is a good start, And we've had no reason to throw it much in the past two games.

Johnson didn't play WR in HS so it's logical to think his biggest jump would be from year one to year two regardless of who the coach is.

With that said, so far it seems there is more emphasis on throwing downfield which should benefit Johnson.

First of all over 20% of the guys mentioned were TEs and not WRs. Most of these guys would have warmed the bench on quality teams in the year referenced. Eric Lair - LOL.

4th in the country in yards per game through Week 2. I don't remember Wolitarsky or Maye doing that....

Has nothing to do with whether we've had other "legit" big 10 receivers

Leave it to DPO to gripe with the word legit. As for your list, many of the names on your list are TE not WR and the only name on that list that would qualify as a great WR was Decker. Maxx would be in the great category as a TE, though he was always under used during his time here.

Maye was very good in his last year or so
Wolitarsky, Engel, Fruechte, Barker, Gray, McKnight were all serviceable none of them were great WR and many would have been a second option at best on most rosters. Yes, there will always be someone to catch passes and rack up some yards but we have had very few gamebreakers at the WR position in recent years. Guys that the defense has to scheme around, guys they have to worry about. Wolitarsky wasn't scaring any defenses.

I guarantee defensive coordinators are taking notice of what Johnson has done through two games and he will start to see some extra attention. He has the look of being a star player at WR, again something we really haven't seen around here since Decker.

You said receivers. Tight ends are receivers. Additionally, great and legit are different things. If you meant great, you should've said so. Furthermore, star is another term altogether. If what you wanted to say was, "He has the chance to be our first star wide receiver since Decker," then you should've said so. Don't get mad at me because you communicated a different message than you intended.
