Here are some postgame notes and quotes from the press conference.

P.J. Fleck
Give Buffalo a lot of credit. Very improved football team.

Praises Buffalo QB Tyree Jackson. Says he’s going to be the next big time QB from the MAC.

Proud of team for finding a way to win. Never not appreciate a win no matter how you get it. Never ever take winning for granted.

Thought QB’s managed the game well, maybe better than he expected.

Defense was playing phenomenal. Give Rob Smith lots of credit and everyone on defense.

It wasn’t pretty. Wasn’t what I want to see. Can grow from this.

Says Mark Coyle gave him the game ball. But it wasn’t for him. It was for everyone that has believed in what he’s doing. It’s for the players, students, boosters. Graciously accepted it.

Says QB reps went exactly as he scripted it.

Ty Johnson is a dynamic player and person. Credits Matt Simon for being one of the best WR coaches in the country and helping mold Johnson.

Says he was proud of the student body and loved the RTB chant. Proud of the fans. That’s what he will remember. Will also remember the resiliency of the team. Carpenter bouncing back to make a kick at the end is a perfect example.

Winfield loves football, you can tell by the way he plays. Calls him special. Have to move him around the defense so he can keep making plays everywhere.

Singles out Ty Johnson and Winfield as elite people and says they both had elite games.

On the running game: We did what we had to do to win the game. Says they kept pounding away. Small gains slowly turned into a little longer runs. Were able to finish the game on the ground.

Conor Rhoda

On throwing the TD pass:
It was a really fulfilling reward. Threw one last year but it was great to throw a TD in front of the home crowd. Had lots of family in the stands.

On Ty Johnson:
The kid comes to play when the lights are on. He’s not the tallest or fastest but can jump like crazy. He’s a gamer. You could tell when he was a true freshman that he was going to be special once he got experience.

On the interception in the end zone:
Says they had a different play called before the TO. Says the defense fooled him on the play. Says he has to throw a better ball. Will learn from the mistake.

On not having a consistent running game:
Buffalo has gotten a ton better. Ran the ball ok but we didn’t get the long runs from our backs. The holes will open up for them. The more we get the backs the ball the better we’ll be.

Tyler Johnson
Says he very comfortable at WR now, understands the intricacies of the position better after playing QB in high school. Credits Matt Simon for being hard on him in practice and making him a better player.
