per the Detroit News:

Minnesota

Sophomore Denny Croft and fifth-year senior Conor Rhoda battled it out in the spring, both having moments that showed they could be the starter once first-year coach P.J. Fleck puts his Gophers on the field for the first time.

Croft has plenty of upside, serving as Mitch Leidner’s backup in 2015 before redshirting in 2016. He completed 8-of-13 passes for 109 yards in the spring game and seemed to have the edge; however, Rhoda was solid, as well. He completed his final eight passes and made it clear the quarterback battle would continue up to the opener.

Go Gophers!!

Don't count Green, Morgan ,and Estes out. There will be much more pressure on these kids in Fall practice.

At the same time, they can't take forever to make the decision. AT some point, you have to decide who is #1, #2 etc on the depth chart so that the starter can get more reps with the first-team offense.

So each candidate only has a relatively limited amount of time to make an impression on the coaches.

I belive PJ outright said he planned name a dude earlier rather than later in camp.

I am sure that early in the fall camp.we will hear coach speak"if we were playing tomorrow, Croft would be our starter, but that could change ". Isn't that what most coaches say? Either QB will be successful if we see the offensive line play improve and most importantly, everyone is healthy up front.

Hopefully the new staff can coach QB's much better than the last one.
