Some roster updates of note:

Donnell Greene lean and mean! Down from 345 to 314...looked good in first year of Big Ten play, expect to see him look great this year.

Vincent Calhoun from 330 to 320. Another guy who was just getting his feet wet last year, expect Vince to move a little better this year.

Garrison Wright 320 to 319...the one of the three juco o-line guys who came in "looking" in-shape last year.

Weyler from 305 to 296. I think they want him pulling and moving a lot. Expect All-Conference Honors from Jared.

Olson from 295 to 297. Didn't need any more weight to play in middle...bet his strength and agility numbers are better. He looked great in Spring practices. Bad rap from Spring game as multiple QBs shuffled in and missed some snaps, not all were on him.

Oseland down from 320 to 305. Guy has some athleticism, as his great offer sheet out of high school indicated.

Schlueter from 290 to 298. Hear he has had a great off-season and Warinner really likes him. Glad we beat out Big Ten rivals for him.

Connelly at 300 still, hear another guy Warinner likes.

Dovich at 298 from 300. got a ton of valuable reps in Spring. Both he and Connelly have filled out big frames in very nice form.

Four-star recruit Andries from 290 to 313. They might play him right away.

Power five offered Sassack from 270 to 283. They might play him right away.

Schmitz comes in also with good size (was listed at 285, now 286).

juco transfer Magana from 275 to 287.

juco Davis at 274

walk-on, shot put state champ Rousemiller at 310

walk on Ruschmeyer at 284

nice sized group of 16 o-line guys; only two seniors

I'm up from about 197 to 203. Donuts.

DeLattiboudere from 240 to 247...looks stronger, thicker.
Gibson from 245 to 260...could former Gamecock recruit surprise?
Devers from 215 to 229. Elite speed/agility gets some added muscle.
Mafe up from 220 to 232. Hope he can play right away like Devers and Coughlin did.
Otomewo from 235 to 240. Legit Big Ten DE size/speed package.
Coughlin from 220 to 225. Four-star recruit may bust out under Paup.

That's anice three deep at DE...No seniors.

All bad jokes aside, thanks for all the info Swingman!

juco All American Royal Silver from 285 to 292. Another big, mature guy who can help right away.

Paup's Iowa under the radar guy Schirck from 270 to 276.

Mc Crary at 240. Could he become an H-back type? I'm not sure if Fleck uses a FB much in his offense.

It's a little disappointing that Coughlin and Devers couldn't add more weight. They are the same weight as QBs Rhoda and Seth Green, and smaller than nearly all of the linebackers.

Croft from 200 to 205.
Rhoda from 215 to 225.
Green from 235 to 229.
Morgan from 175 to 205. He needed some size.
Estes from 170 to 163. Cornerback?
Picerign and Roste at 224 and 234.

Tanner Morgan gained 30 pounds in 7 months here? whoah.

I'd like to see Croft get to about 215-220. He's 6'5" after all.

Pretty sure Devers is still only 18 or 19 years old (was young for his class), and Coughlin basically IS a linebacker, only got moved to this "R" position out of necessity. If he wasn't so loyal to the U, his best position probably is OLB in a 3-4 defense like at Nebraska or Wisconsin.

I agree, but most of those LBs are still 235-240 and Coughlin should be able to get to at least that weight by his SR year. I was just expecting a gain of more than 5 lbs in a year, which is nothing.

That IS the position he's playing.

Isn't the R basically a 3-4 OLB

weight gain for a QB is important?

It is when you're only 170 and have to hold up against B1G defenses. Now he's the same weight as Croft who is several inches taller than him.

Morgan has a good arm, I think the biggest knock on him in spring ball was that he looked small.

Kind of a bad fit that we have six or seven beastly looking TEs for a new offense that doesn't use the TE nearly as much as the Kill/Limey throw-back offense (which often featured 2 TE sets). I was hoping Wozniak would grow into a tackle in the offseason, but 280 still isn't going to cut it for OT. Hopefully he can be a monster on the edge though.

LBs as a whole still on the small side. I think Poock is the same as when he got here 3 or 4 years ago.

DT looks stacked this year, although the one thing we don't have is that 340-360 behemoth in the middle that the most elite teams typically have.

I say this every year, but man Kill screwed up by not redshirting Stelter. Would be a whole different outlook next year at DT if we had him coming back as a RS senior. He's gotten better, and bigger, every year.

Very few teams have players that big.

Just looked and I didn't realize Croft is still only 19 years old. He must've graduated from high school at 17 (August birthday, started early).

Hopefully will keep putting on some good weight. His ability to withstand hits and stay healthy is going to be key for us this year, obviously.

Are these weights before or after those trips to Fogo? Only partially joking. Gaining or dropping weight is very easy particularly in big bodied dudes. A night at the steakhouse...between the food and the water retention easily 3-5 pounds are possible. In a nutshell, I find listed heights and weights suspect. I'm more interested in technique and production on game days.

I'm more interested in weights than production on game day.
