Breaking: Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze has resigned effective immediately

Turns out the guy is married with children and an outspoken "bible banger". A real Jimmy Swaggart. Have to believe Univ of Miss will have a difficult time finding a up and comer with those sanctions hanging over their head. I'd bet on a retread looking for a final big payday like Les Miles or similar.

It's a stunning fall from grace for Freeze who was making more than $4.7 million annually at Ole Miss and will now receive no buyout because the school had enough to fire him through a moral clause in his contract. He's earned himself the ignominy of being one of college football's biggest frauds.

This was a man who made religion his public persona, even using the NCAA's long inquiry into Ole Miss as an example of the persecution he faced.

"Coach Freeze told me when you're that big and out there with faith in Christ, he's like 'What do you expect? Jesus got nailed to the cross," recruit Chevin Calloway told SBNation though the Ole Miss coach denied that characterization.

His Twitter was full of daily Bible messages, Christian allegories and other inspiring messages about football. He was a living embodiment of the cliche "Faith, Family and Football." When he interviewed for the job, he even said that "Jesus Christ will be at the center of it all" and "if that's not what you want, I'm not your guy," according to former linebackers coach Tom Allen.

Unfortunately for Ole Miss, that proved to be a facade. The school's highly-paid football coach believed more in the "Do as I say, don't do as I do" mantra.

Freeze was holier than thou, smarmy even, about his religion and the type of man he was. He organized public displays of goodwill to boost his image, but privately was paranoid and lashed out over small misgivings. No coach in the SEC cared more about how the media portrayed him. It's a safe bet your favorite college football writer has a story of Freeze calling him and invoking his Christian beliefs over even a remotely negative story about Ole Miss. He loved to dish out accusations and blame others for any of the Rebels' shortcomings, rarely if ever acknowledging his role in them.

Even when presented with evidence of a phone call to an escort, Freeze claimed to Yahoo Sports it was a "misdial."

The "J" on his "WWJD" bracelet must stand for Jerry Springer.

This seems like a perfect opportunity for Tracy Claeys to come in and clean up Ole' Miss.
Despite the stupidity of a handful of kids under Claeys watch, Tracy knows what it takes to fix a failing program. He and Kill did it at many stops including Minnesota.
Plus, I gotta think there's some interesting garage sales in Mississippi. [emoji41]

Really? You have got to be joking. Nationally, his firing has out of control players stamped all over it. I don't agree with that assessment, but try to sell a coach with just one year HC experience, got fired because his players were involved with a sexual .... and they were planning to boycotting a bowl game. That would be a real hard sell to any fan base. I wish the best of luck to Claeys, he is a very good coach, but it will be a long time before he gets a chance to be a HC again.

I was thinking about this and see it more as an opportunity for Claeys get back to being a DC at a P5 school. A lot of coaches wil be avoiding Ole Miss while it's under sanctions.

I could see that.

Bobo, at CSU, will be on the radar if they have a good season. Les Miles would a good fit.

Ummmm. This is what I call a real nutt-freeze story.

I am not sure what is more predictable and full of SEC clichés in this case:

-Bible thumping BS spewing good ol' southern boy is hiring hookers

or

-Doormat SEC program suddenly has NFL level players all over the roster, and starts beating elite SEC teams

Solution, blame it all on Houston Nutt, a pretty good coach who probably could write a good book about life in the SEC. Cheat, lie to the NCAA and try to hang Houston Nutt out to dry, and then it burned them! It appears the whole mess riled up Houston Nutt, and he filed a whole bunch of Freedom on Information Act requests and uncovered all this stuff. Incredible story
