Over the last two days, six Gopher football players were named to various preseason watch lists. Tight ends Brandon Lingen and Nate Wozniak were named to the preseason watch list for the John Mackey Award. The John Mackey Award is presented to the nation's most outstanding tight end.

Defensive tackle Steven Richardson was named to the Bednarik watch list, while running back Rodney Smith was put on the Maxwell watch list. Each year, the Bednarik Award is presented to the College Defensive Player of the year. The Maxwell Award honors America's College Player of the Year.

In addition, center Jared Weyler was named to the Rimington watch list, an award which honors the best center in college football.

Finally, wide receiver Eric Carter is a nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, one of the highest off-the-field honors in college football. He was one of 146 players selected as a nominee for the award. He was chosen for the contributions he's made as a teammate and community member. Once the field is narrowed, fans will have the opportunity to vote for the AFCA Good Works Team Captain on ESPN.com.
