My gut tells me that this is a growing trend in college FB - not a U of MN or Fleck problem - it's broader than that.
bottom line - we're talking about 16 or 17-year-old kids. remember when you were 16 or 17? Now imagine having to make a life-altering decision, all while having people tell you you're the greatest thing ever and showering praise on you. It takes a really level-headed kid to handle all of that and make a good decision. Plus, social media, websites, twitter, instagram, Facebook, etc have created the instant-response reaction to every recruiting decision. Shoot, there was a time, youngsters, when no one knew anything about recruiting classes until signing day - and then, it was "who the bleep are these guys?"
And - trying to be careful here - some of the athletes being recruited in D1 college FB may not be coming out of the most stable home environments, or have a good support system around them to help them make a good decision.
So a kid is being recruited, likes the spiel from Coach 'A' and commits. Then, kid hears a different spiel from Coach 'B' and wonders, did I make a mistake? So he de-commits from Coach 'A's school and flips to Coach B's school.
I will be interested to see what happens when the early signing dates become official. how many kids will be willing to make a final decision earlier in the process? And will that cut down on the number of de-commits? To be determined.
