All Things Ben Carlson Recruitment Thread (Class of 2020) UPDATED: Commits to UW

My daughter goes to a East Ridge. She’s says she sees different colleges there just about everyday. Going to be a fun hoops season for the Raptors.

OH NO ! JB is the kind of coach who really hits home with this kind of kid, plus the school is amongst the highest rated public.
I've honestly have thought we've haven't had a much of a shot with Carlson. Not sure about Daija, but seems like we are putting a lot of eggs in the Garcia basket. Anyways guessing we take two bigmen max in 2020.

Agreed. No idea on Dainja. Great start on Garcia but it is always a problem when the big dogs call. Best chance is always early.

Pitino has built a pretty solid relationship with Carlson and I think he really rose to the top of the priority list for the local bigs for 2020 after his performance on campus this summer at the team camp. It seems like Pitino or one of our assistants have been at East Ridge at least once a week this fall. They also have seen Garcia a lot and he definitely is a priority too but seems like they are harder after Carlson lately. Haven't heard as much talk about them being out to see Dainja.

Where do you think Stanford or Michigan stand with Carlson ? For the longest time ISU had a big lead but it is a new world when a kid and his family have alot more at stake than basketball. Stanford has laid out a very enticing experience. I have thought that Hurt was the most likely given that Garcia is tight with Xavier.

A Wisconsin writer thought Stanford would be tough to beat for Carlson but he hasn't exactly been accurate with a lot of his takes going back to last spring. I think Carlson would fit well at Michigan but it seems like they are really just starting to get on him while the Gophers have been heavy on him for a while now as well as some other teams so that might put Michigan at a disadvantage. I haven't heard much Xavier steam with Garcia just that he liked Johnson when he was with the Gophers. The place other than Minnesota that really seems to be intriguing for him right now is Texas and he is taking a visit there I think next week.

ISU had a big lead? Na, hes not going to iowa state. Stanford has a legit chance, but i think he ends up in the big ten. Pitino loves him and has put in a ton of work with him and his family. I do think Pitino likes Carlson more than Garcia. Garcia doesnt talk much about recruiting but i havent heard Xavier mentioned at all with him lately. Texas and the bluebloods when they start offering are gonna be the teams to beat.

A year ago ISU had a big lead because of what are deep family ties and his offer list at that time. Stanford made a giant impression on he and his family.

4-star Minnesota Forward’s Stock Rising with Michigan

With its point guard needs now met in the class of 2020 thanks to the commitment of Maumee, Ohio combo guard Zeb Jackson, Michigan’s attention has shifted to the frontcourt where several top prospects are showing major interest. One such target is St. Paul (Minn.) East Ridge forward Ben Carlson. The 6-9, 205-pounder brings a versatility to the floor that has high major programs lining up at his door.

“He is offensively and defensively efficient,” East Ridge coach Bryce Tesdahl told The Michigan Insider at his school earlier this month. “He’s a threat on both ends of the floor and he can rebound at the highest level possible. I think he’s one of the best rebounders, if not THE best rebounder in the state. He’s almost a guaranteed double-double, and I think he’ll be close to some triple-doubles this year as well.

“He can share the ball, can make the three, and can jump over people and dunk. He can rebound and block shots above the rim. He has put on some pounds strength-wise and I think that’s going to continue to add to his dominance. He really picked it up the last three months of his sophomore year. In his junior year I think he’s going to take another big step to help out his team, and obviously prepare him for the next level as well.”

Carlson had the opportunity to get a first-hand assessment of the potential fit in Ann Arbor when he visited campus for the first time last month. He came away from the experience extremely impressed.

“It was really great to get out there,” said Carlson. “They’re obviously a top school every single year. They’ve got a really great history there, so we were at a football game against Nebraska. We went around campus a little bit, saw the facilities, talked with the coaching staff before the game, and then we tailgated with some of the players. That was fun. And then we went to the game. Obviously that’s one of the best atmospheres in college football, so that was really cool to see that. It was a fun visit.”

Very disappointing at Hopkins tourney. Kid did next to nothing. I didnt see anything special here.

He is on a stacked team. You probably saw what will be his worst game of the season.

Carlson looked very strong in this game. Did a bit of everything inside.
